If Granteed wins, there's gonna be a show, and that's gonna be five robots diving into it and exploding a turn, because what boksi said about it is very true. With that said I'll still keep it from tearing up too much stuff, excepting perhaps a "demo level" where I showcase what horrors it can pull off.

We're up to 3 total sets of votes. Two more.

+1 for girl because she's military. For robot, I vote for range real.

Also where did you get this?

And that vote's cinched it for the girl and bellezute!

I'm off to pick up stuff for the next update.

Again VOTING FOR THE CHARECTER AND ROBOT IS NOW CLOSED! YOU CAN STILL VOTE FOR FAVORITES!

Have a rockin rendition of fire wars (Song from the Mazinger series) while you wait.

EDIT: There's more text in here then I remember.

You can get the translation here. Speaking of what to do with it is skirting the forum ToS, though. Ostensibly, Seriyu imported the japanese version, constructed a method of creating a digital copy of its data for strictly personal use, and then created said copy and either applied the patch with the appropriate tools or directly applied it with maddeningly impressive coding skills.

"... That same dream again. And with it, the same castic, horrifying emotions. It's not a nightmare, though. No. For me, it is reality. It's been a full month since, but still I dream of that fateful day. It serves as a reminder that I'll never see him again. I was taking part in live-fire testing for Ash'ari Kreutzer corp.'s weapons development division. A secret domed installation on the moon housed us. At least, until Jovian Lizards pinpointed our location. In an instant, the dome was attacked and completely obliterated. The staff, the trainees, the equipment, the data, the unit... all wiped out. Except for me. He was a co-worker of mine. Army liaison, he said. he asked me to leave the army. I obliged. I knew then. We were always going to be together. That was until I woke up in this cold hospital bed. That was until they told me I was the sole survivor. Grief-stricken, I try to remember the sound of his laughter. I envision his clear eyes, and lose myself within."

Needless to say, the female pilot has had kind've a rough time.

Mystery figure: ...In regards to the shop, the board of directors has agreed to entrust you with its preperations until it's ready to launch. You will, of course, be duly compensated for your cooperation. Are our terms acceptable?

to think you had some sort of evil intentions... I accept!

Mystery figure: All right, we're leaving the rest in your hands. Do your best to advance the project and achieve our goals. That is all.

Prospector: My, aren't we busy? I suppose I should start gathering talented peple for the main crew. There's no way the army's going to let us advance with the project once word breaks, so we can't settle for anything less than the cream of the crop.

Fukube: Quite a crowd you've assembled.

Prospector: The personnel department chose to enlist them all at once. Do you have any questions about the main crew?

Prospector: Yes, well. I'm more than sure he'll make up for that with his skills.

Fukube: Aren't all the bridge staff novices?

Prospector: They may not be in a crew that will impress an ex-admiral of the UEFA, but they're all quite talented. Especially the operateor. She's so skilled that she can control even the Nadesico's special systems single-handedly.

Fukube: Hmm... So all that remains is the combat personnel? I only see one candidate.

Prospector: The Nanbara Connection has agreed to provide some to us in exchange for monetary assistance. We are also negotiating with the Photon Power Labs, and in addition, we've selected three Aestivalis pilots from our company's colonies. Their transfer is still in progress. We also have another pilot on her way to negotiate. She's ex-UEFA, and seeks to improve her abilities through combat on Mars.
Nanbara Connection is the home base of Combattler V, Photon Power Labs is the home base of the Mazinger army.

Fukube: Mars, eh...?

Shift view to a hospital on the lunar surface...

Calvina: I figured I'd be talking with the guy who contaced me, but I guess I was mistaken. Are you the Prospector?

Prospector: Indeed. I'm expecting a favorable reply. That's why I'm here, after all! You'll be leaving the hospital tomarrow, correct? That must be very exciting.

Calvina: I appreciate your enuthusiasm, but... Even if you emply me, I'm not going to be of any use. That won't change no matter how many times you ask.
She seems a bit down, to say the least.

Prospector: This is most unexpected... Just so you know, I'm not going to take no for an answer. Let me be blunt, Ms. Coulange. Our company wants you to lend your prowess to the Nadesico, a new model warship.

Calvina: ......

Prospector: Of course, we've already investigated your background. Ex-Federation Space Force, 2nd Lieutenant... A star student at the academy, so much so that people began to call you the "White Lynx." After being sent to Mars' garrison during the first conflicts with the Jovian Lizards, you ran up against some... troubling circumstances. Due to injuries, you were sent back to Earth, before the imminent main battle. Shortly thereafter, you unexpectedly left the military and worked under contract at the Ash'ari-Kreutzer Corporation. One month later, the dome you were assigned to for testing purposes was attacked by Jovian Lizards and annihil-
I'm... not really sure what he thought rattling off her past was gonna do for his case.

Calvina: Enough! I've seen the media coverage, and I know they're claiming no survivors... How the hell did you know I was there?!

We know you were working on a new weapons project, and that you were striving to ascertain the value of an experimental unit when the dome was attacked. A member of your officer's training class had his eye on your testing results, and through him we were able to find you. That is all we know. We were unable to secure any further details.

Calvina: ......

Prospector: In addition, all data concerning the incident was erased and the entire project destroyed. Doesn't it almost seem like someone in the Federation didn't want this one to be solved? They've gone so far as to claim the sole survivor of the incident wasn't even there... ... I wonder why they would do such a thing?

You better have a real good answer, or they're gonna have to prep the emergency room to put that bespectacled visage of your back together...
Yowch.

Prospector: Ah, well... Forgive my lack of courtesy! You are quite right to be angry. That was just a chat that got... out of control. What we need is your high degree of skill, knowledge and experience in battle. We don't have any other important reasons for hiring you besides that. My sincerest apologies for the misunderstanding.
He may be kind've a jerk, but let nobody say the prospector doesn't have balls.

Calvina: Well, that's a shame. I'm in no shape to pilot anything right now. Hell, it looks like I'm gonna be in rehab for months.

Prospector: We are aware of your current state, but that won't be a problem with our new Image-Feedback System. Our company developed Aestivalis can-

Calvina:I have no intention of being altered for IFS-use, Mister Prospector.

Prospector: Hmm! That is an obstacle, indeed. May I ask you, then, how you intend to fight the Jovian Lizards?

Calvina: Couldn't care less about 'em. And with that... I looks like you're out of options. Time to give up.

Prospector: No, no! How about this one? We want you to join the crew as a combat advisor. You could work as an aide to the captain on mobile weapon use!

Prospector: Because you are an ex-soldier with first-hand combat experience. We need people like you. Including a bonus... How does this salary sound?

Calvina: ......

Prospector: Something wrong? Oh, don't worry! It will all be tax exempt, of course.

Calvina: Fine. I agre to your terms. Besides, it's not like I have anywhere to go if I decline.  I'll settle for anything. When's the departure?

Meanwhile, back in the lunar city harbor...

battle's nearby is kind've an issue, but... What's the problem with being a coward?! Fact of the matter is, if I get scared, I get scared. It's not like I do it because I LIKE it. My body just-)

Yurika: ... But Jun, are you really okay with this? You were a Lieutenant in the UEFA! You gave that up just to be by my side?

Yurika: Huh?

Jun: That's why, I... well, er...

Yurika: I see... All right, Jun! We're gonna be the best of comrades!

Jun: Yeah... Yeah.

Akito: Whoa!

Yurika: Oh, sorry! Are you all right?!

Akito: Ahh, well...

Yurika: Oh no, my luggage is all over the place!

Akito: Sorry. My fault. Let me help you out.

Yurika: Thank you very much! ...Hm? I know this may sound a little strange, but... ... Have we met before?

Akito: Uh, what?

Yurika: I just... get the feeling we've already met, somehow.

Akito: Couldn't say.

Jun: Yurika, we're gonna be late if we don't hurry!

Yurika: Right! Thanks a lot for the help. So, if you'll excuse me... All right Jun, let's go!

Jun: Ah! Wait, Yurikaaaa!

Akito: Hey, you dropped your picture! ...Too late, she's gone. Hmm? What's this photo? ...Wait a sec, that's me! Why am I in there? Oh, I get it now. We really HAVE met before! Yeah... I know you, Yurika Misumaru. Argh, I can't let this go! I have to be sure it's her! Where did she run off to?!

Calvina: Seriously though, I never thought I was going to be in a place like this as soon as I left the hospital... Especially when you originally contacted me during my hospitalization.

Prospector: That's understandable. You'll be officially commissioned soon enough. Ah... Excuse me! What are you doing here? This is a restricted area!

Akito: I'm looking for my friend, Yurika Misumaru. Did she come through here?

Prospector: Oh, you're already registered. Mr. Akito Tenkawa... You're a survivor of the destroyed Martian Utopia Colony?!

Calvina: Unbelievable. How did you get back to Earth?

Akito:...I don't remember.

Prospector:*chuckle* You're a pilot, eh?

Akito: No, I'm a cook! And that's enough about me! Is Yurika here? I'm sure she and her father must know my parents died.

Prospector:I see... You've lived through some real hardships. Indeed, she's here. If it's all right with you, can we employ you as a cook? You'll be able to talk to her whenever you wish, that way.

Akito: Huh? Well, er... since I don't have a job yet, I guess I could-

Prospector:That settles it, then. From now on, you're the Nadesico's cook. Be sure to give it your all!

Akito enters the nadesico's hanger...

Akito:She always did love to roam... I wonder where she is now?

Gai: Let's go, Gekiganger! Hyaaahh! Take this! Final blow! GEKIGAN BLAAAAAAAADE!

Gai:Heh, it's me! I'm Gai! This super robot - Gekiganger's - main pilot... Gai Daigoji! Nice to meet you, Professor!

Akito:(Gekiganger... Boy, that brings back memories.)

Uribatake: Who the hell's this "Professor"?! And how can you be the main pilot in a one-seat unit?! And it isn't "Gekiganger" it's "Aestivalis"! Stop giving it weirrd names like that!

... You're a little early don't you think?

Gai:Daaahahahahaha! No way! I've been looking forward to this my whole damn life! I'm already one step ahead of you guys! Yeahhhhhhh! KABLAM! KABLOOIE!
... Daaahahahahaha?

Uribatake: What's this guy's problem? Hmm? Wait a second! It says the pilot is Jiro Yamada... This doofus isn't even the actual pilot?!

Gai:T-That's just my given name! Gai Daigoji is my SOUL'S name! The real one! Come on, you evil Jupiterians! Gai Daigoji ain't gonna let you have your way with Earth! Awwww yeah! Hahahaha! I'm so awesome, it hurts!

Akito: What're the "Jupiterians"?

Uribitake: Who knows? Nobody's ever seen 'em. The Jovian Lizards send automated robotic weapons exclusively, and those don't really count as living, so-

Uribatake: I'm Chief Mechanic Seiya Uribatake. Nice to meetcha, cook. Hope you make some good grub! Anyway... Hey, you! Give it a break already, willya?
Uribatake's a pretty chill guy. I like him.

Gai: Hahaha, this is gonna be a special treat, just for you guys! Gai Daigoji's Ultra Super Giga Final Blow Technique! The people call it... GAI! SUPER UPPERRRR!

Uribatake: Hey, cut it out, you moron! Whoaaa!

Scene shift to the bridge.

Minato: Well, well... Looks like they're causing quite a stir in the hangar.

Uribatake calls up to the bridge.

Uribatake: Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but that dumbass got himself a broken leg overturning the Aestivalis. Could we get someone over here to provide medical attention, please?

Minato: A broken leg? Now that you mention it, isn't he the only available pilot right now? What in the world was he thinking?

Fukube: ......

Gai: Aarrghhhh! It huuuuuurrrrts! ...Hey, kiddo... please... can you bring me my... Treasure?!

Akito: Your TREASURE? Don't tell me it's that Gekiganger doll?!

Something of note, remember when "baka" was that one word that everyone that wanted to know japanese, that didn't know japanese, was saying? Ruri is pretty much the reason for that. her catchphrase, more or less, in nadesico, was "Idiot" which as most internet folk now know is "Baka" in japanese. Internet history! Would you believe I picked this up from wikipedia rather then watching the actual shows? Because I did.

Prospector: Hmm, it appears we have the bridge crew fully assembled. Ms. Coulange, this is the Nadesico's bridge. Have you all finished introducing yourselves?

Minato: Not at all.

Prospector: Then allow me to introduce you to one more person. This is the commanding officer, Adm. Fukube.

Fukube: Yes, ahem... Even if you're only an observer, we're still counting on you.

Calvina: (Adm. Fukube? The same one from the climactic battle on mars...?)

Prospector: Former private secretary, now main helmsman: Ms. Minato Haruka.

Minato: Nice to meet you!

Prospector: This is our communications operator, Ms. Megumi Reinard. She's a former voice actress.

Megumi: Pleased to make your acquaintance!

Prospector: This is the ship computer's operator, Ms. Ruri Hoshino.

Ruri: Nice to meet you.

Megumi: Wow, you're the girl who runs the ship's computer?!

Ruri: Seems that way, yes.

Minato: *laughs* You're an amazing girl, aren't you?

Prospector: When it comes to Image Feedback-based electronic devices, she's a genius. Since the Nadesico's main system was heavily designed for IFS use, she's the best one available... And this is our combat advisor, ex-UEFA 2nd Lt. Calvina Coulange.

Calvina Not that I have a rank anymore. Nice to meet you guys. I've heard you're all the best at what you do. I'm sure you'll do fine.

Minato: Huh. You mean we're going to be able to do something after all?

Prospector: Yes, all of the bridge crew are experts in their respective fields, and our Captain takes pride in having never lost a simulated battle in the Earth Federation Academy.

Calvina: They're the elite, then... I wonder what a captain like that would be doing out here? ... Hell, where IS the captain?

Prospector: Hm, that is strange... They should've arrived by now.

Yurika: Ah, here it is! Look, Jun! That's the bridge!

V!

Jun: H-Hold on, Yurika!

Yurika: I'm sure to capture their hearts like this!

Huh.

Minato: ......

Megumi: ......

Calvina: Guess that's why she isn't working for the UEFA...

Ruri: ...More idiots?

Jun: Ah, well, I... I'm her second-in-command, Jun Aoi. Pleased to meet you, everyone!

Prospector: Huh... Well, I know this may be a bit abrupt, but we have to talk about the ship's utilization rules and...

An alarm sounds off.

Calvina: An alarm?

Ruri: Jovian mobile weapons are engaging the UEFA forces directly above us.

Fukube: How's the Federation doing?

An explosion rocks the ship.

Jun: T-They're attacking us?!

Fukube:That means they aren't after military installations exclusively. Make no mistake, their target is the Nadesico. What do you make of this, Captain?

Yurika: Mr. Prospector, are all crew members onboard?

Prospector: Most of the crew have boarded, yes... Wait. Captain, don't tell me you're going to engage the enemy?!

Another explosion rocks the ship.

Fukube: She's right. If we sit here, we're going to be destroyed. What do you intend to do, captain?

Yurika:If we go out through the tunnel above us, they're going to shoot us down... ... We'll have to use the underground gate to exit from the Lunar City. If we can get out through the 3rd gate, we'll surface behind the enemy!

Jun:That's too reckless, Yurika. This port isn't military! The only exit big enough to allow a ship to depart are those docks!

Ruri: The 3rd gate's size is adequate. It will not be easy, however. We'll have to maintain an excellent balance ration while moving... We don't want to damage the area, after all.

Yurika: Okay! I figure it'll take us about 10 minutes, but I have no idea how we're going to keep them at bay for that long, so...

Gai: That's my cue! Gai Daigoji'll keep the enemy outta here, no problem! Gahhhh! My burning passion...!

Uribatake: It's burning, all right... You can thank your newly broken leg for that.

Ruri:A decoy's already launched. It's an Aestivalis, using the upward elevator to the docks.

Megumi: Open a comm channel!

Akito: I'm sick of getting involved in things! I'm a cook! I don't want to die in a horrible place like this!

Calvina: (Isn't that the cook from before?)

Fukube:You... What's your name and designation?

Akito:Huh?! W-Well, I'm Akito Tenkawa, cook.

Jun:Yurika, he's...

Yurika:...The boy from earlier? Akito... Tenkawa?

Prospector:He came from Mars. I contracted him to work here earlier today.

Gai:Why's the cook in my Gekiganger?!

Calvina:A person under your circumstances shouldn't be mouthing off so much. Can you handle this, Akito Tenkawa?

Akito:Handle what?

Yurika:Akito... Akito... Oh! Hooray! Akito, it's been so long since I last saw you!

Akito: Huh? Me?

Yurika:Yes, you! Why'd you pretend not to know me though? Oh, I know!I bet you're still as shy as ever!

Akito: W-What the heck? What are you doing on the bridge?!

Prospector: She's the Nadesico's Captain.

Akito: Huhhhhhhh?!

Yurika: Yup, that's me! *giggle*

Jun: Hey, Yurika... Who is he?

Yurika: He's my Prince! He always comes to my rescue when I'm in trouble!

Akito: Hey, hold on a sec-!

Yurika: Akito, you can't be a decoy. It's too dangerous! I understand, though. You've made up your mind. A woman's selfishness is nothing compared to your resolve!

Akito:W-wait! Did you say "decoy"?!

Calvina: ...Wasn't that what you wanted to do?

Akito: Of course not! ...Wait a second... What decoy?!

Yurika: Don't worry, Akito, I understand! We on the Nadesico leave our lives in your hands. Be sure to come back in one piece okay?

Akito: Hey, waaaaaait!

Ruri:The elevator has reached the lunar surface.

Megumi:Hang in there!

Gai:Gimme back my gekiganger!

Calvina: *groan* Akito Tenkawa, can you hear me? This is the ship's combat advisor, Calvina Coulange. The Nadesico's surface ETA is 10 minutes. During that time, try to keep the enemy away from the docks. Oh, and one more thing... ...Good luck.

Akito: There's no way in hell I can run for 10 minutes straight! Good luck, my ass... Dammit, this sucks!

Alright, starting up the mission. First thing you'll note is we have a single unit vs six or so. You'd think this would be an issue, but it's actually not too bad as even the weakest units in super robot wars tend to outclass grunts by a wide margin. The single unit we have in our command right now, is a single Aestivalis, piloted by our good friend Akito, in a Zero G frame. I'll explain frames later when we have a reason to use more then one of them. The Aestivalis is a Real Robot, and as such dodges very well, doesn't take hits so well. We're currently in range of all six enemy units...

As seen here. None of them are on any beneficial terrain so any of them are fine to go after.

So, I move up and attack the top one on the left, Opening the weapon menu. The GUI is fairly self explantory, higher numbers are better, range is measured in tiles, as you'd expect. The circled P stands for Post Movement, you can use these weapons after moving. All of the aestivalises weapons have this quality, this is AWESOME. A big issue with using long range units, for me at least, is making sure I'm... actually in range by the time my next turn comes around. (Long range weapons, while there are exceptions, do not tend to be post movement) The circled C is a combo weapon, and Akito doesn't have the skills to use a combo weapon, so we'll leave it alone for now and explain it later.

So, here's the Attack confirmation menu, the enemy has a 57% chance to hit me, I've got a 100% chance to hit him. This... isn't good, half a chance to get hit when three hits tops will do my only unit in can be an issue. Luckily, there's a way to circumvent this stuff.

Spirit Commands! These things are abilities that every pilot has, and what generally sets them apart. Most pilots start with two, and earn up to six as they level. As you can see below, Akito has one. He's not a combat pilot I guess, so it makes sense. You kind've feel bad for the guy after a while, really.

Luckily, he has the one I'm interested in. Focus, as it says, increases hit rate and evasion by 30%, and uses 15 SP. Akito has 60, so he's got four uses... I'd prefer to avoid using it if I can, but I'm kind've frugal. That'd bring the enemy's hit rate down to about 20%, which I'm... much happier with. Still not entirely happy with it, and I don't want to tempt the random number gods with only one unit. What do you do? Well....

We can move down to the lunar city. As you can see here, it raises our defense, in the case we get hit, by 30%. That's a huge boon for a real robot. It also raises our evasion by... not 30% at ALL, but it does help a little bit, and restores 20% of our HP and Energy a turn. Very nice terrain, and this will pretty much seal the first mission on it's own. So I move Akito onto it, and end the turn. Note you have to be on the ground for terrain effects to take place, obviously.

Our enemies get their turn, and move towards Akito to attack him. However we only have a 49% chance to dodge because I assumed the terrain bonus would be enough for defensive purposes. Luckily there's a THIRD way to fix this.

Evasion! It cuts the enemy's hit rate in half, bringing it from 50% to 25%, thereabouts. No screenshot because it changed a single word on it, where the weapon name was, there is now "Evade".

Akito: Dammit! God, just give me a break already!
Poor fella. Signed up for cooking and is now being shot at by aliens.

But wait! I've forgotten a third factor. Barriers! The Aestivalises (and the Nadesico) have a built in barrier called "The Distortion Field"(that you can't see because it flickers and I got a bad frame), It uses some energy when it activates, and cuts damage, in this case, it's reduced damage to zero which is why the Aesti doesn't seem particularly distressed that it's being shot at. Aesti's are... pretty good real robots, with their barriers, decent strength attacks, and evasion. However there's another gimmick to them that isn't currently in play here that kind've messes with them a bit. We'll get to that in the next mission. Anyway, I have Akito counterattack the only other Batta that attacks him, and he comes out of it with no damage thanks to the Distortion field.

So we've survived the first turn, and have a bunch of enemies in range, and frankly are in a pretty good position. I'll use Focus, Because we're obviously not getting anywhere if we keep dodging, and if the distortion field keeps activating we WILL eventually run out of energy, and then we're in a bad position. (We don't have to kill all the enemies to win this mission, but the experience is still nice) Akito attacks the leftmost batta in range with the Rapid Rifle.

It does about 2100 damage, which is about 2/3rd's of the Batta's health, it counters, and misses.

Enemy phase 2 happens, and there's more dialogue.

Gai: Oh, my beloved Gekiganger... I knew it, the cook can't fight!

Uribatake: Keep your leg still, doofus!

Prosector: He's doing the best he can. What do you think, Calvina?

Calvina: He seems to be doing fine. For a decoy, anyway...

Ruri: Doc pressurization secured. Opening subterranean gate.

Minato: Engines working fine.

Yurika: Nadesico, take off!

Ruri: Nadesico, taking off!

Redundant Dialogue! I love these games, but the amount of dialogue is massive and stuff like this isn't doing it any favors.

And, the attacks on Akito continue. Focus ensures we're pretty safe, so I'll just leave you with a few more screenshots.

Annnd another ability activates. But this isn't exclusive to the Aestivalis! It's called counter cut, and it's occasionally used against any attacks that can be "cut" so basically anything but beam, or beam analogue weaponry, It will also only activate if the defending unit has a sword of some description, and the counter cut ability. The Aesti in this case has a knife. In this case Akito is cutting missles out of the sky before they hit them. Pretty badass for a cook.

And akito takes down his first unit! Hoorayyyyyyyyy, this results in getting a bit of cash and increased experience. (Normal, non "death" actions result in about 10 exp and no money.)

Akito: Heh... Heheh! Somehow, I survived...
Atta boy.

Another batta attacks Akito.

Damn, akito's getting fancy today. This is shoot down, which is similar to counter cut, except it only works on missles. You can't very well shoot down a sword right? Unless it was being thrown I guess. But regardless, it only works on missles, will only function if the defending unit has a gun on him and has the shoot down ability. Functions otherwise identical to countercut.

Akito takes down a second batta. Four more to go, and 8 turns left to hold out. I think we're gonna finish all the enemies before even half the time limit is up at this rate. And wouldja look at this!

Akito's got enough willpower (earned through various actions depending on pilot, I think Akito gets his from dodging attacks, and otherwise avoiding harm, and loses some when he takes a hit. Considering he's in an aestivalis, this is a good set of "will gains". Also everyone enjoys it when an enemy unit is shot down obviously and gains will from it.) to use his best solo attack! Gekigan flare! Judging by that attack rating it'll take out a unit in one shot. Let's take a look...

KAPOW! I was right, we can clean house now.

Akito: Great! It's just like the Gekigan Punch! As long as I have that, I can do this!
I actually really like Akito when he's not freaking out over things. Which is... less often then it should be.

Another enemy phase, we've cut the enemy forces in half now. I just figured I'd mention Akito has gotten like, four "reaction" abilities (counter cut, shoot down) in two turns and I don't think I've ever seen that happen on a single unit. Things are going well I think!

Ruri: 2nd enemy wave, incoming.
Damnit.

Akito: Enemy reinforcements?! Dammit, nobody told me anything about that!
You're... in the wrong game if you don't like reinforcements kiddo.

Megumi: I wonder if he'll be all right...

Calvina: We can't help it. He's piloting that unit just fine, and he's a cook on top of that.
A little mean, sure, but we have to ask him to continue fighting.

Gai: Go, cook! Send 'em flying with the Gekigan Flare!

Calvina: I wonder, though. He might be better then the real pilot.

Yurika: Akito, do your best! For my sake!

Ruri: Unidentified heat-sources approaching at high speed.
Ffffffffff-

Prospector: It's about time they arrived.

Yurika: Oh? Are they someone you know?

Prospector: Yes. They're the reinforcements from the Outer Space Development Group and the Nanbara Connection.
fffabulous!

Gai: The Nanbara Connection?! Hooooly cow, don't tell me they sent their Ultimate 5-Part Combination Robo?!

Prospector: Yes, that's the one.

Gai: Whooooaa, for real?! This is TOO COOL. Still, that damn cook is really getting the juicy part of this deal... Lemme head out there too!

Ruri: Be quiet, Mr. Yamada.

Yurika: Let's hurry to the 3rd gate, everyone!

Combattler V appears! A super robot, with admittantly kind've thin armor for something with no evasion, but it packs a punch and will be more then enough for this.

Daisaku: Any sign of the Federation, Hyoma?

Juzo: You gotta be kidding me. We've just arrived, and there's already a battle going on? I don't remember signing up for this crap...

Chizuru: Yeah, this is unexpected.

Now's a good time to mention, combattler V has five pilots. Daisaku, Juzo, Chizuru, they're all combattler pilots. Hyoma is another, and the main pilot. This means his stats are what goes into evasion/defense/attack calculations. The other four pilots serve as spirit command batteries, and unique spirit command lists. This is the main reason combattler is good. Spirit commands never "age", they're all flat boosts to performance, so this is nice regardless of your progression through the game.

Noal: Aki, shouldn't Nergal's docks be around here?

Aki: There's no mistake. We're in the right place. Looks like the enemy's attacking the dock...

Noal: Damn! If things get too crazy, we're bailing.
Thanks.

Noal: That Nadesico warship we were gonna board was probably destroyed, anyway.
THANKS.

Aki: Noal, this is a mission. Stop being so pessimistic.

Noal: My motto is "Always prepare for the worst." Hey, you guys! What're you doing here?

The reinforcements from the outer space development group. Not nearly as good as combattler, but it has a special bonus, which is it can repair friendly units, and with it's high move speed and evasion, is very good at doing so. Weapons aren't really that great, but repairing gives plenty of exp, so it's not an issue usually. Also a two seater, Aki is the second pilot.

Hyoma: Same as you! Combattler was developed to fight invaders from outer space. There's no way we're just gonna watch
the Jovian Lizards trash the place! If you get the picture, then let's go!
That's the spirit!

Noal: Oooh! They theink they're hot stuff, do they?
Noal is not one to be outdone, apparently.

Noal: So, Aki? Should we just leave matters to the boys and girls here and-
Nevermind.

Aki: Noal.

Noal: All right, fine. We'll assist. I'm really not looking forward to the verbal beating the Chief's gonna give us though!

Akito: What are you guys?! You aren't... Jovian Lizards, right?

Kosuke: Look over there, everyone. That's a mobile weapon developed by Nergal: the Aestivalis. Yes, there's no question... The data indicates it's affiliated with the Nadesico.

Hyoma: It's the Nadesico's, huh? Hey, you're right Kosuke!
Kosuke is the last pilot of the Combattler, as a note.

Noal: Fair enough. Aki, open a channel that Aesti... whatever it is.

Aki: Roger.

Noal: Hey, Nergal guy! Can you hear us? This is the Blue Earth, of the Outer Space Development Group. You all right? How are your friends?

Akito: What? Who the hell are you guys?!

Aki: We're here to assist the Nadesico.

Chizuru: Same here. Are you a crew member? Tell us what happened!

Akito: You're allies, then? The Nadesico is all right... I think. I decided to remain out here in Order to buy them time to escape. If you're friendlies, then please, help me!

Hyoma: Whaddaya mean, "Remained"?
It's... it's basic english, Hyoma.

Juzo: Talk about brave and miserable. Guess he's a pilot from the Nadesico...

Akito: I'm the cook!

Naol: You're the COOK?! What the hell're you doing out here, then?!

Aki: Noal, this isn't the time to discuss this.

Daisaku: Hey, it's fine. Just leave em to us!

Akito: I'm saved...

And we finally return to combat. Let's show off the combattler and blue earth, huh? Combattler first...

There's also one more page, with an attack called "Super EM spin, it's best attack. Requires 130 will though, which I'm fairly sure we will not be reaching in this fight. Another common theme of super robots is they tend to use energy, instead of ammo. This can be a problem in protracted battles, and is particularly evident with the Mazinger Army, who are not currently present, as they don't have a lot of "free" attacks. Also note, it has no chance to dodge. If I evaded, it may STILL not have a chance to dodge, as accuracy can overflow. Luckily, defend is an action similar to evade, it halves damage, doesn't hurt evasion rate in the slightest. Perfect for super robots and battleships.

For anyone new to this watching, the face emerging on the right is called a cut in, and is what I'll be referring to them as in the future.

Did about 2500 damage.

I'm gettin lucky today.

Now, that left the batta with like, 500 HP. now, I could use rapid rifle, and use ammo for it, or Gekigan flare and use precious energy, but the attack "immediate knife" uses no ammo or energy, at the cost of being very short range, one tile. So we'll be doing that. Managing energy and ammo supplies like this is a key to keeping long missions from being drug out, even here, in one of the easier SRW titles.

I always thought the immediate knife animation was pretty nasty looking. What you don't get in screenshots (videos for animations will be posted in the second post, don't worry folks.) is that the aesti spends several seconds grinding the knife into the other guy. Yeesh.

Now for blue earth.

Yeah. If combattler actually got hit, I'd be repairing him with blue earth, buuuut here we are. Note that being a... space plane? It can't land on the ground, and as such can't gain terrain bonuses. It has a 70% chance of being hit, and neither of them have evasion raising spirit commands yet. Sooooo it's using the "Accel" spirit command (raises movement rate by 3), and healing akito's like, 800 damage.

Both pilots got 56 exp for that. It's no kill, but much better then a normal attack's value.

Big Blast is an oddity among super robot attacks in that it has ammo, 3 shots. It's a pretty nice attack with no will requirement and huge range, so I'm not complaining. It one shots the batta. Very nice. You'll also note a basic missle attack did 1000 damage to combattler. That's .... not very good for a super robot, but it's not the end of the world. Keep a repair unit like blue earth around combattler if you intend to use it.

Combattler runs out of big blast ammo and the enemy happily runs up to him to get in range of twin lancer. Very polite of them.

Another one shot kill. Super robots WRECK grunts, so you may be wondering why I said they're weak to them? The answer is they will whittle down a super robot, if it's taking five attacks a turn, and they will eventually stop one shotting grunts, they're gonna be dead in no time. Their accuracy will also start suffering against grunts due to the size system (more about this in a later update). It's not a problem if you keep an eye on their HP and energy, but be aware that in a pinch, real robots are much better at dodging grunt attacks, and as such keeping the super robots safe. As proof, take a look at combattler's HP after this turn.

He defended like, half of those attacks, he took like 7. This is the first mission. Yeah. It would've helped a ton if I'd landed him on the lunar base, to be fair, but I didn't think to. Also worth noting, those same units would've likely killed akito 3-4 times over, so they're still definatly very sturdy, but don't think they're invincible.

V laser is the weakest attack of combattler, and uses energy. It is rarely worth actually using, since Super EM Yo-Yo is only one block shorter in range and uses no energy. So let's take a look at it NOW! Because it probably won't be coming back.

More stuff explodes, Blue earth repairs combattler, Combattler lands on the base, Akito keeps trashin jerks with gekigan flare. Of note is that akito is down to 30 energy. Another flare and he's gonna be limited to his rifle and knife. This isn't a huge deal because the mission's about over. In fact the rest of it is pretty much robots one shotting mooks and the blue earth fixing up combattler. But still one last thing to go over- Resupply. Similar to repair, but it restores all of a unit's EN. Useful right? Naturally it has a cost. It costs the unit being restored ten will. Will effects stats as well as attacks, a unit at 150 will (the cap for most, and all units in this game), will have 1.5x their normal stats. Below 100 and they start taking penalties. The will hit can be a problem sometimes. Also resupply is not post movement, so a unit has to go to the blue earth to resupply. We're down to one last batta, let's finish this up!

Victory.

OR IS IT

Akito: More reinforcements?! Dammit!

Noal: Enough with the attitude, kid! ... Damn, they're not letting up. Hey, how much time do we need to buy?!

Akito: A couple more minutes, still...

The nadesico finally escapes the dock safe and sound.

Akito: Sorry for the wait? B-but it isn't even time yet!
Poor Akito is quite frazzled by all this business.

Yurika: Yes! I hurried for your sake!
D'awww.

Ruri: Enemy weapons are within firing range.

Yurika: Blow them to bits! Target all enemies! Gravity Blast,FIRE!
Yusssssss, that's what I like to hear.

Takes care of that third wave! (The gravity blast is also flickery and as a result is invisible in BOTH of these screenshots. Bleh. Kind've a black, glassy looking laser beam) Battleships are in their own class, VERY heavy armor, less evasion then a super robot, very powerful, long range attacks, and on top of all this, units can dock inside of them for repairs/energy over time. This uses 10 will per turn though for the one in the battleship, so make sure you don't do it too much. What's the downside? If a battleship goes down, game over. Also they have the highest targeting priority to enemies, so if a battleship is in range, everything is gonna jump on it. They have the armor to handle this for a while, and usually several pilots, so no lack of SP and defensive skills, so they can keep this up, but again, don't think they're invincible.

Aki: Unbelievable...

Noal: Whao! That was crazy!

Hyoma: That's the Nadesico, huh?

Mission officially ends, on to the post mission dialogue! I'll be right back with that.

Final note, YOU HAVE ANOTHER HOUR OR TWO TO VOTE! WHEN THIS NEXT UPDATE GOES UP, I WILL GO BACK AND PICK FAVORITES FINALLY!IF YOU WANT YOUR VOTE, GET IT IN NOW!

Ruri: Enemy mobile units: zero. The UEFA forces and dock suffered serious damage, but no harm came to our allied units or the Lunar City.

Calvina:Nothing serious, it sounds like.

Minato: Well, isn't that lovely? Nice one, Captain!

Fukube: Indeed. Well done.

Prospector: Impressive. Personnel from Blue Earth and Combattler, you have my thanks. We're glad to have your cooperation. Captain, tell them th-

Prospector: Er, Captain?

Akito: D-Don't misunderstand me! It's not like I came here just to help! I merely wanted to see you and-

Yurika:Huh?! You wanted to see me?!

Akito: Well, not oriignally! It's just that I saw this picture, and-

Yurika: You came all this way to return it? Enough, Akito... I'm already in tears!

Akito: Will you s top interrupting me?! I just wanted to-

Yurika: Confess? Become my steadfast companion? Or maybe even... marry me?!
Aren't those last two kind've similar, if not the same?

Akito:No!

Juzo: What the hell's going on over there?

Hyoma: Hey, what about us?! Did you ever stop to consider that we might be tired from the battle? Hurry up and give us the order to land!

Calvina: Seems the Captain's busy right now. Think I should give them permission?

Minato: Perhaps.
Minato doesn't seem very decisive.

Ruri:Opening the hatch.

Megumi:Everybody, can you hear me? Crew members, clear the deck for landing!

Hyoma: Man, how long were you gonna keep us out there?! We go through all that trouble to get Combattler to the moon, and not only do we have to save your butts, but we only get thanks from that short, mustachioed geezer over there!

Chizuru:Watch it, Hyoma!

Juzo: Enough of this crap, you guys. I don't want to be seen together with you any more than

Hyoma: Why the heck're you always getting on my case, Juzo?!

Chizuru:Hey, that's enough bickering, you two!

Noal: I'm beginning to have second thoughts, here. Do we really have to work with these kids, Aki? Is it too late to reconsider?

Aki:M-Maybe... That's not the point. We can't turn back, Noal. Did you forget our mission?
Wow, even Aki's second guessing this.

Noal:Rorger that. Man, why do I get the feeling we're gonna be stuck in this mess 'til the end?

Megumi:Um, we can hear you...

Noal:Whoops! Sorry 'bout that. It was a joke. A joke! Hey, don't give me that look! Let's land this thing, Aki.

Akito:But I...!

Yurika:Yes, yes! Akito, I understand exactly how you feel! You love me so much! With all your heart! Foreverrrrrr!

Gai:Oh, and gimme back my Gekiganger!

Akito: Will you LISTEN TO ME?!

I love that line.

Minato: Really? I bet it's going to be pretty interesting!

Calvina: Whatever...

Ruri: Idiots...

MEANWHILE, AT NERGAL HQ...[/i]

Let's begin.

Shadowy figure (top): To be frank, our current situation is... delicate. As for the matter at hand, the Atlantic Federation is always ready to act at a moment's notice. Of course, that means they're going to behave as if they were acting for the entire Federation, but...

Shadowy figure (bottom):My, what troublesome people. Those idealists striving "for the preservation of our blue and pure world" are merely jealous about their lot as incomplete humans. It almost calls to mind the discrimination of centuries ago.

Shadowy figure (top):But we can't disregard their acts. Even for an extremist organization, they have roots in the top ranks of the military, government, and economic sectors of each and every nation. If they re-focus their actions against PLANT, then...

Shadowy figure (bottom):Enough speculation. I don't even want to think about that possibility right now. It's been half a year since the first battle on mars. Soon, Project Schiaparelli will bear it's fruit. Our
priority right now is launching our fully independant investigation team to Mars. It'd be even better if we pulled out before everything starts, actually.

Shadowy figure (top):The Jovian Lizard attack was outside our predictions, unfortunately. Now that the  Federation has seen its power, I doubt they're going to ignore the ship.

Shadowy figure (bottom): They'll be able to fulfil our expectations, regardless. They may have charecter problems, but each crew member is the best in their field. Hmm. For now, let's just sit back and wait to see how things develop, shall we?

WWOOOAAAHHHH WHAT'S ALL THIS AAAA YOU'LL KNOW IN A DAY OR TWO AAAAAAAAAAAA no I'm not LPing puzzle robo. I might link some videos.

Now off to get the second post set up.
