Your thinking of DnD kobolds (DND stole everything and usurped it for its own agenda). A huge variety of fantasy writers and in myths they are fuzzy, hairy, and bark like dogs, their sort of smaller versions of gnolls with more pug faces.

Don't get me wrong I sorta like DnD kobolds, but only in that universe, in all the rest their fuzzy ).

My favorite is the EQ kobolds.

No, Kobolds in DF are brown skinned, bald and have yellow glowing eyes.

They even lay eggs

The raws said so.

I didn't ever look at a kobold that close... just assumed they were as I thought they should be.

Wow, there's an AWESOME cavern in this save!

The part I dug into is a HUGE open area with an underground lake next to it. It's epic.

Is there no end to your capacity to argue over a single creature's appearance, Bay12!?

According to the raws they're tiny, ugly, hairless monotreme-humans. Monotreme because reptiles in DF use a scale template, kobolds use skin as with mammals. They also develope facial hair and their skin wrinkles. (Monotremes are an order or family of non-placental mammals that lay eggs, like platypi.)

Imagining a particularly fluffy and slightly less ugly strain of kobolds isn't that hard. Dogs are cute, normal kobolds are like retarded gnomes. Think about puppies.
