how does one goes giving the hammerer an hammer?

if he's put in a squad, will it use the hammer for giving justice, or will change it to another like woodcutters?

Not an answer, but some consolation. I too am stupid.

I usually don't need a hammerer since I make a chain or two FOR JUSTICE pretty fast, but it'd still be nice to have the hammerer equipped.

Don't equip him a hammer. The one he's carrying, he won't use. They haul the hammer for executions, not equip it.

When justice time comes forbid all hammers that is not the special hammer. He will have no other choice than to use your special hammer.

They're dwarfs.  I make sure to have lots of silver warhammers available for my mighty Hammerman.  The more dead the better.  Which makes silver so great.

Alternatively, make him a special candy hammer for a light tapping.

Wait, so, he doesn't carry around a hammer, and when it's EXECUTION TIEM, he grabs the nearest hammer and goes walloping, then drops it? Is that how it works?

I guess you could have all of your hammers except the one you want him to use be assigned to military positions or something...

You shouldent even equip the hemmerer, thats more stupid then not nkowing how, as every single time your mayor doesint get his way, someone suffers. Most of the time a random metalsmith that was unable to produce the slade earrings that were oh-so vital to the forts survival.

I got caught by this last fort.  I equipped my Hammerer with wooden crossbow thinking he'd beat people with it, and hammerin' time came and he went and got a steel hammer out of the stocks and killed a guy. 

It was a mandate for pants.  Got busy with this FB dust meltdown and forgot about it.  Damn pants.

I make sure that my baron/mayor's preferences line up, or they don't get appointed. Mandates for warhammers and axes I have no problem meeting
