Breeding Giant Toads ...
« on: March 31, 2012, 01:27:04 pm »

Hi,

Anyone have luck with this? I've got the male in a cage, the female on a chain ... do I need to provide water sources in the range of her chain? A nest?

Thanks

Giant toads don't have the CHILD tag, they can't breed.

You could always add one in the region raws, if you were that dedicated.

I don't think the game will simulate tadpoles.

I guess you could use eggs..?

It isn't a new Dwarf Fortress version until we're made to fear some kind of regular creature.  Carp, Elephants, Unicorns, Badgers, and now Mosquitos.  I've got 5 dorfBucks on the next one being plagues of groundhogs.

First you must get a cat and a three-toed sloth. Lock them all in a room with a mechanics workshop and watch the magic happen.

OK, I've got the cat ... would a mason's workshop work? I don't have any mechanics workshops.

Thanks, jaxy15 - I didn't think to check the raws. I might play around with it, as you folks suggest.

Thanks!

I think with child tag you get regular life births, you'd need to mod in egg laying for the females

I wonder if you can mod in like in nature, where some amphibians will turn female if there are no females in the population and vice versa

It is possible to mod a creature with a caste-limited transformation interaction, that will transform that creature into a member of the same species but opposite gender.  There's no way to cause the effect to be triggered by lack of an opposite gender at the moment.  You'd have to tie it to the cleaning or greeting behavior or something.

Cleaning does not make you a woman. I washed dishes this morning, and I've still got all my bits.

It would if you had an interaction that turned you into the opposite gender upon cleaning something as suggested in Sphalerite's post.
