No flux stone?
« on: March 31, 2012, 10:37:04 am »

Sorry if this is a nooby question, but it seems to be a problem., Of all the worlds I gen, none of them have flux. I have mineral occurrence set to high, and my worlds are medium sized. Can anyone help me with this?

Just so we're clear: the site finder showed no sites with flux stone at all?

Yes, I put it in the search parameter, and there's no flux anywhere

it depends if you always embark on the same terrain.

however, in embark screef you can use (f)ind a site and set flux to yes. Toady mentioned in the latest release that it had been fixed, so you should be fine

in a custom world, you can set volcanism degrees to favor less volcanism, it usually improves flux occurence and iron deposits.

right, generate a world with advanced parameters.

I set the range of volcanism to 0-20% 3, 20-40 to 3, the next also to 3, then 2 then 1

it will decrease the amount of igneous layers and improve the chance for sedimentary. Two of the most common flux stone are sedimentary layers, limestone and chalk... actually, checking the wiki, marble is the only flux stone that is NOT sedimentary.

These layers also have better chance to contain limonite, hematite and magnetite, the three ores for iron.

Just to clarify: When you use the site finder, there are no X-marked spots? Or does the list of site features say stuff like "Deep Soil, Shallow Metals, etc." but not Flux? If it is the latter, that's normal. Flux hasn't shown up properly on that short list for quite a while (though I think that might have been fixed in .34.07). If you want to be absolutely sure, get dfhack and use prospect in the preembark screen.

Thanks for all the help, but I solved this problem on my own. I genned a new world, without minerals being set to everywhere, and I instantly got flux. I guess the large amount of minerals blocked it out, or I got really unlucky.

unlucky, I'd say. I've had scarcity set so low that I actually was happy to find granite layers (few to no ores) because I was lacking enough stone and it had plenty of flux.

I'm getting the same problem with my copy of .07. If I set the mineral-availability to "Everywhere", the site finder can't find any Flux, even if that's the only thing I search for. Works OK if I go with "Frequent."

I find that it lies about that a lot. Most of the time, it'll tell me the site has no flux stone, but I dig and find some marble down 20 or so layers.

Just weird that it's a complete fail- zero sites found- when you gen a world with minerals everywhere.

I'm also having trouble creating world's containing flux with version .07. It doesn't appear to be anywhere in the worlds the I'm generating. Been prospecting and all I'm finding is some marble on occasion.

Found plenty of flux on a dozen 34.07 worlds so far. I have not seen one world completely lacking flux. I'm using dfhack to prospect.

Soooooo, exactly HOW do you know there is no flux? Did you do a search for flux, or did you simply look in the site finder and see that flux was not listed? Flux is almost never listed, even when present in abundance.

I'm finding it now. It seems to be only on worlds that have maxed out minerals, lowered it to about 500 and flux is fine.
