IndieGala 3
« on: March 31, 2012, 09:03:33 am »

Hey all,

So apparently Indie Gala 3 is up, but metacritic gives sparse but appalling reviews to most of the games on there. I was wondering whether you fine gentlemen has any experience with the games on it?

Grotesque Tactics is pretty fun/funny, but my anti-virus detests it for some reason. The others I don't know.

Twin Sector is portal with special telekinetic gloves instead of a portal gun. I'd give it a 4.6/10 (That's not bad. 6 means above average enjoyment, not horrible.)

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

For much of metacritics sources a 7 is average. The lineup is intriguing and I might just throw $5 to charity, if I had $5 rattling around in my paypal.

Instead of Grotesque Tactics I think I would rather play Mark Leung.

Future Wars was pretty terrible.  The graphics look like it would be good but the AI is awful.

I couldn't really get into Grotesque Tactics or Greed either.

1. Metacritic is terrible.
2. Just because others butcher the scale doesn't mean I have to. It makes -50% sense for the average to be 20% above average.

You aren't Metacritic, IGN, Giantbomb, etc. So, just take their score and drop 2 or so points. This makes the entire lineup look awful.

I don't trust most mainstream review sites, but a metacritic rating of 50 or less is an indicator that the game has problems.

Mathematically speaking, you have to be at least 5.1 to be above average. 5 is kind of the line between 'acceptable' and 'not acceptable' generally.

Thats only true assuming that 50% is the average. It's not in many cases.
If you go to school and get 50% in all your classes, did you do "average"? No, you did terrible. The real average is somewhere around 80%.
It is the same in this case, 50% is not average.

In terms of what's happening, yes.
