Freak world
« on: March 30, 2012, 07:28:38 pm »

Whelp, I have to say that this is the most interesting world I have ever generated so far; after firing up and scrapping a few with insufficient megabeasts I finally pulled up one where more than 15% of the buggers managed to survive to year 500.

However... it turns out that the world is of no use to me. Because all of the goblins are extinct, save for a measly 160 outcasts that have been assimilated into other civilizations.

A little looksy at legends viewer gave me the reasons why.

This little goblin civilization decided to pick on all of the humans.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And this little goblin civilization decided to wage war on... everybody.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And as a result there are no goblin civs at all, anywhere.

To further enstrangen matters, take a look at this little snippet of a location near the place where both dwarven civs makes their home:

As you can see the necromancers have not but a simple tower, they have also conquered a small human town and... PROFANED THE MOUNTAIN HALLS! Can this outrage be permitted to stand?

I wasn't going to bother with this world, but instead of simply throwing it away and making more I figure I'd let you forumites have some input, since it's the first moderately interesting and abnormal world that I've generated... ever.

So tell me forum peoples, what should I do with this world?

It uses my own customised raws, so unless other people would be wanting to play with those then it isn't such a good idea.

Are they so customized that they can't simply be replaced, say, before you upload it, or would it actually require a regen?

They're not horribly complicated raws, and I could indeed replace the majority of them before uploading without much in the way of negative effect.

You would, however, completely lack animal men. Nothing that I could do about that without a regen.

Meet the brave dwarves who are going to root out this necromancer menace once and for all, driving them from the ancient mountain halls of our people.

The civilization 'The Delightful Hammer' has spared no expense assembling a crack team of witchhunters and inquisitors in order to fight off these inhuman monsters.

This band of hardened veterans calls themselves 'The Triangular Butterfly', and their job is to create a forward military outpost in an attempt to lure the necromancers out of hiding with the promise of fresh conquest.

This outpost, representing the hopes and the future of all dwarven kind, is named 'Sparkledreams'. Heads will roll.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

He's a master at the arts of unmaking.

He takes the real, and makes it unreal.  He takes that which is, and makes it into that which is not. An artisan of destruction, the architect of unbeing, the executor of desolation!

That is to say, he loves blowing stuff up!

The nothingsmith is the most terrifying dwarf of all.

Dwarven discipline has always been broken up into two sectors, those who create and those who destroy.

Creation is the heart of industry, it is from the heat of the forges that the dwarves fashion weapons of iron and steel, hundreds of workers busy themselves weaving fabrics of producing fine dwarven furniture envied across the globe.

Destruction is the answer to creation, or the answer to that which creation begets. Out of necessity have the dwarves fought to stave off goblin invasions, the lurking babysnatchers and kobolds thieves that prey upon others should the opportunity arise, or the terrifying beasts hidden far under the earth, secrets that would be best kept.

But the nothingsmith... The nothingsmith is none of those things. A null state that lies not in between that which we already know, but in another plane entirely. For the nothingsmith is he who creates void... an absence of existence, empty promises of great things left unfulfilled, the broken and wearing feeling of wasted life. All engineered with a delicate hand and an artisan’s touch; perhaps that is why we instinctively shirk away from, even shun, the nothingsmith, perhaps because he reminds us so much of ourselves, or worse... what we could become.

You will fear what hides in the dark recesses of your mind.

I'm not going to ask about the Cheesesmith.

The cheesesmith’s job is to, by using some manner of poorly understood eldritch witchery, turn the vast vats of pig milk I embarked with into cheese.

Armok preserves, I don’t want to know what that heretical process involves.

Hopefully the first migrant wave will come with a Mileycyrussmith. She may even prove to be more effective than Stella the Enstabbener.
