In other news, a minigun turret firing at an endertot is hilarious.

I don't even know what's going on any more.

Also I forgot that zombies could ride nightmares, time to add some AA turrets to my base.

Well the cave gen mod was never updated to 1.4.5 or 1.5+, that site is crap; they just repost the old files so they get hits from people who don't know any better. Still if it DOES work I'll be amazed. Let me know how it goes. :)

Yeah, that mod failed.  I took the Slender one off, because the instant I left my house, the game window started the Slender end game.  Hadn't even collected a note.

Is there a mutation mod, similar to Cataclysm's system? That would make my day.

You mean black hole.

E: Anybody got recommendations for a modpack with a lot of mods that's pretty good in quality and not too hard to get into? Because I've played modded minecraft, but I don't actually know shit about it because I've only played it on servers with people that know everything fifty times better than me.

(Singleplayer, by the way)

A black hole is a star, but I didn't mean a black hole, no. It probably isn't that dense or massive. It'd be more likely to create a star with a rocky core due to it being Minecraft world stuff, and then fusion happening more in the star's atmosphere than core.

physics doesn't work that way
That rocky core would cease to be rocky the instant that thing becomes a star
heck, even before that; Jupiter's core is probably metallic hydrogen, but the transition from gas to liquid to solid is a smooth gradient.

If you're curious...

Working on the assumption that minecraft cobblestone is, as it appears to be, crushed bits of rock...

The average density of crushed rock is 1.6 metric tons per 1 meter cube.

If that barrel is holding 64 stacks of 64 blocks of Octuple Compressed Cobblestone, that is 4096 blocks of said compressed cobblestone.

If each of those 4096 blocks contains 43043712 normal blocks of cobblestone that is 17.6 x 1010 blocks of cobblestone, which would be 28.1 x 1010 metric tons in density, all in the space of 1 cubic meter.

I think my math is right here, anyway.

Following on that, I checked the Schwarzschild radius for that mass, and it's not enough to create a black hole, not by a long shot : it would have to be compressed in a sphere of radius ~4.175 x 10-13 meters to be a black hole.

With a density of ~2.8 x 1014 kg/m3, this barrel is somewhere between the density of a white dwarf star (1 × 109 kg/m3) and a neutron star (8.4 × 1016 – 1 × 1018 kg/m3).

This mass of rock is approximately equivalent to a 3km radius asteroid.

My guess is, if it existed in the real world, it would explode, because the mass isn't enough to keep it contained through gravity alone (a 3km asteroid's gravity is very weak, no matter how dense)

Man now I want a mod where you can put lots of hydrogen (siphoned from the atmosphere) into a small space and create iron, lead, or neutron star material and if you fuck up you get a supernova or a black hole

Hey guys. Just asking if anyone knows if Ars Magica is compatible with the Aether 2 Mod???
Like does the mobs respond well to magic and if Ars Magica Towers don't spawn like crazy in the Aether...

Okay, this is a bit of a brainstorming on Minecraft modding, specifically about mining. More of a mental exercise than actual modding... but if it was to make a mod it probably would be for MC so I'm putting this here.

Anyway, one thing that rubs me the wrong way, and is maybe the cause of every single player out there relying on automated quarries / frame quarries, is the way Minecraft handles ores. It's also a bit how Dwarf Fortress handles ores (comparisons to real life are mandatory, but this isn't about making the game "realistic"), you make tunnels and tunnels fishing for tiny blocks of ore, until you have such a ridiculous honeycomb or just hollow a 50x50x50 cube trying to get every single speck of it. A "vein" of ore (no such thing in Minecraft tho, unless playing TFC, where it lasts something like an hour of mining, you scoop it up and hope it's enough for a breastplate).

In real life, when someone finds metal ore, they construct a mine that can last for months or years (not talking post-industrial here) and have tons of constant output, until the day it runs dry. I'm not an expert, but it doesn't take hollowing out a cubic mile of terrain to get enough metal to make 20-30 tools.

How would you go around making mining less grindy? I'm thinking veins should be some sort of entity, or like a chest, mining a block doesn't remove it instantly, there's an amount of ore that can be obtained from it gradually. Advanced machines wouldn't involve fishing for ore in an entire chunk, but actually placing it next to an ore block until the entire contents are emptied. This probably would reduce server load compared to making a Quarry kill 9 chunks over a few hours...

Does this sound ok? Is there a reason this wouldn't work? Any other alternatives / suggestions?

Hm. What if Minecraft had certain mineral sites in-world and you had to build a multi-block mining machine over them and power it to receive ore?
