So I haven't really played Minecraft since early 2012. I kind of burned myself out on the Tekkit pack, the InustrialCraft-modslew. Gregtech is supposed to breathe new life into it, but it seems like a mess and has issues. So I was kind of excited to see Voltz/UniversalElectricity project and jumped into that instead.
Not all the Universal Electricity mods are finished yet, but it kicks ass. I highly recommend trying it if you haven't yet. Some things are much better than the IC equivalent, other things are works in progress, a few things are completely new and unique. On the whole, it looks like it will eventually replace most things IndustrialCraft.
The core industrial stuff needs some work, like power sources and recipes. Early game progression is kind of rough and needs some work. Fewer but easier to use machines than Tekkit. Nuclear Reactors are kick-ass. The fully customizable powerarmor (IE Jetpack addon to torso armor with a slider bar to trade power for lift, physical and energy armor with a slider bar to trade weight/energydrain for damage reduction, slider bar to adjust toolspeed for powerdrain, etcetc) is amazing and consolidates a lot of IC-related armor content into one package. The customizable power armor almost reminded me of Tribes, building a light and fast suit with great jumpheight/jumpjets/sprintboost plus a glider and then a tough and slow suit with insane armor. The ICBM mod is fantastic with lots of very cool content (The interceptor missiles and radar I love, and the variety of well animated explosion effects is cool), but not really the core attraction. Though I do think a mini-game server needs to be made with 10-minute DEFCON showdowns. The Assembly Line is really cool with actual assembly lines and the related machines, and the programmable robot arms are very cool and a solution looking for a problem. AssemblyLine is still being fleshed out more but I'm liking it more than the old Tekkit piping nightmares. Still have a pipes/pumps/tanks dedicated mod that has intentionally extra unused pipes for integration with future UniversalElectricity mods.
Keep an eye on it, I think it's going to be big. Good cooperation between mod authors and significantly less drama from what I can tell.
