Just checking for confirmation, but it is possible to turn off some mods in the Technic pack, right? I'm not sure if I want to jump into IndustrialCraft or BuildCraft yet, but MoCreatures is nice and things like Thaumcraft and Nether Ores sound interesting.

I don't think you can, but those are more "optional" mods.  You can not participate in Buildcraft simply by not building any of the components.  You will find the ores related to them, but they don't replace existing ore, they just generate more.  Caves get rather busy, I swear there's more ore than there is stone sometimes.

Or well, you can just delete them, but I think it will re-download them every time.  If you hit "texture pack" and click the "show me the location" button you can find the technic installation path easily, and the delete things out of the \mod folder.  But as I said, I believe it will simply re-download them.

There is in fact a way though I forget it...

Oh and hops are something you get from IC2 farming along with coffee beans

Are there mods to make cave ins happen slightly more realistically?
If by 'more realistically' you mean 'at all' then I can only think of Terrafirmacraft. It's a total conversion mod though, so it may not mesh with what you are looking for.

Hops are obtained by wrestling with the IC 2 farming system.

To disable a mod in Technic, the only option is to remove it from the mods folder.

As usual, Direwolf20 provides EVERYTHING.

It appears you make a "crops" with sticks, then you plant things into the crops square, and do crossbreeding to produce new types of crops.  Time to begin megabreeding and see what I can discover!

You'll discover that it's largely based on random chance, and half the time weeds will just fuck up whatever you're trying to breed.

Already discovered.  Weeds immediately began destroying my crossbreeding patches.  But I'm gonna stick with it as I can, because the prospect of having plants that produce iron dust sounds amazing.

 I like some of the concepts of the agriculture system. The ability to harvest most plants without having to replant is amazing and a delightful feature. But then you have seed packs and analyzing them using a pretty bad interface and a buncha influences you can't really observe in the system. And they use the old trample system where simply walking over the plant tramples them. The weeds can be annoying, but I never had too much trouble with them.

   There is a device which will keep your plants all nice and weed free. The cropotron will water, fertilize, and apply weedx(or however its spelled) to plants in a certain radius that I forget as needed. Of course if you just want to do it yourself weedx will for an amount of time keep you crops weed free.

Crop-Matron seems to have a 9x9x3 area - that is, the tile of the machine + 4 tiles to either side, plus one tile up and one tile down.

Unfortunately there just seems to be no info on crops, and no way to obtain it either.  For instance, "air quality" is a factor, but there's absolutely no way to even guess what it does, or how to measure it, or anything.

I think I'm just going to get a crop matron and strong-arm my way towards hops, iron-plant, and maybe something like the gold-plant or the redstone-plant.  Once I get those, I'll just sort of wing it and do crossbreeding in spare time to see if I can't improve the stats.  Also worth checking if the RedPower's machine-thing can't harvest crop tiles automatically.  If so, then I might have an automated booze farm.  Hopefully, complete with timer to tell me when it's properly aged and ready to be consumed.

So, having a little bit of trouble with the Technic Launcher. Opens for a second before closing again. No error messages. Any tips?
