wait, do you install it into the minecraft.jar or the minecraft 1.2.5.jar?

and by it seems to have worked, I mean it's not done a black screen or anything. is there another way to tell if it's worked?
You open the minecraft.jar, delete meta-inf and put all the files from the forge zip inside the jar

Well, if its just forge and you didnt blackscreen, then it worked.
Either it worked or he installed it wrong.

The fact that he doesn't know WHERE to install forge makes me think he hasn't read up on how to install mods.

.jar mods are the main reason I use MultiMC to do my testing, you can add and remove them without an issue and it rebuilds the jar for you.

So if it worked with just forge, now you should have a mods folder in the .minecraft folder. Put IC2 in there and run minecraft, see if IC2 works.

Yeah, manually installing mods can be a pain in the arse.
I'd have 3 or four windows open, at the downloads folder, the folder where i put my mods, the .jar file in winrar, and the .minecraft folder.
Hmm, there is some sort of batch script or something so you can see crash reports.
I dont know where to find it, but mayby forsaken does?

MultiMC lets you keep as many instances of minecraft as you like, so I have vanilla instances of each version going back a ways, as well as ones that I have modded along the way. I think I have something like 15 different instances of minecraft in there.

EDIT:

And i have a 1.3_01 jarfile, but nothing else.
(i guess that i could use the 1.7.3 resources folder)

EDIT:

What do sluices in TFC do?

Wait what?
Playing with TFC, i make a charcoal pile and go to cut a few trees because why not.
When i come back, the pile is already completely done.
I wasnt away very long. Guess they sped it up alot in the last version.

EDIT:

Oh, and i'm by a lovely chestnut-and-oak forest. There is some sphalerite in the ground.

Yeah it shouldn't take as long to burn it down to charcoal, and now the charcoal is spit out into the world I guess. That would suck if you missed it and the items despawned.

As long as it takes long enough for grass to grow over the dirt. That's usually my first TFC house :P
