I'd love to use Mystcraft but I had a bad experience with it yesterday.

Installed it, got a new age and a linking book made. Used the book and teleported through. My game crashed. I reopened Minecraft and I was back at my original spawn away from my house (I had slept in a bed!) and found my way back to my base. I went through the portal again and it worked fine, I think it was a floating island jungle biome. I walked a few steps and my game started going incredibly slowly. So I opened my inventory to go back home.

Shit. I'd forgot a linking book.
Now you are stranded on an alien world. Find your way back by creating new worlds until you find one that can send you back to the overworld.
Assuming your world has water and reeds... and chickens... (Which is why I have an alchemist's bag full of paper and feathers and other supplies just in case.)
Nothing that cant be fixed with a little bit of cheating.

My personal philosophy is that cheating is completely fine, as long as it leads to awesome.

I agree with DrPoo on this one. Cheating ruins it for me so I am very strict with myself. The only time I will NEI/TMI myself some items is if a bug or something destroys some items, and only then if its something I spent a lot of time getting. Like once the game crashed while I was holding my klein star omega and it was lost when I reloaded... ugh.

Losing is fun when stuff blows up and the world crumbles around you.

Not as much FUN when you just need a piece of reed and you are just forced to abandon a world for no good reason.

Wouldn't you be completely fucked if you spawn in a skylands world? Or a single-biome desert or snow world?
And you can't return to the overworld anyway, since linking books link the the plane they're made on.

You would farm reeds and make descriptive books until you find one with a star fissure

There are quite a few places that if you go to and don't have the ingredients for descriptive books/linking books that you are screwed over in, since they don't have the ingredients to make descriptive books (namely some dimensions don't have reeds, and some dimensions never have chickens for feathers).

I have discovered that you can use Mystcraft with Technic. Dont even need to screw around with block ids.

Just turn off millenaire, throw all the mystcraft stuff into the modpack.jar(its in bin), and you are done. Works like a charm.

Has anyone tried the Skygrid map with Technic? It seems that Technic overwrites Skygrid...

Dunno if it'd help, but try forcing minecraft to allocate no more than 256 memory. I think technic's got something like that in the options, though I don't remember how low it goes. Just set it as close to 256 as you can, the give it a shot.

Hmmmm...odd. My technical expertise states that I have no idea what is wrong. I basically stumbled across this at random.

Are you sure you used the latest mystcraft?
Have you modded technic in any way?
Did you move anything around while adding mystcraft to modpack.jar?
