I just use what Direwolf uses and he has the config files all set up. As for if you had to do it yourself I guess it would involve figuring out what ID's every mod uses and changing them so they don't conflict manually.

I just install my mods one at a time, then install Not Enough Items for its handy-dandy ID dump log feature. Then I install, or reenable another mod, until I'm finished setting all the IDs.

If Buildcraft and/or Equivalent Exchange are installed, there are a few new torches you can use.

Vanilla has normal and redstone. BC adds the land marks (which may or may not give off light, but they look like other torches). EE adds the (somewhat expensive) interdiction torches.

Landmarks do give off light.

Well I made it to video 10! I manage to craft the research thing from Thaumcraft and I show how far I have gotten so far with my farm stack.

Technic pack also has a bunch of other lights, with a couple dozen colors. I don't remember any details or if they require power of any sort, but they are there.

Edit: They're part of Redpower and take redstone signal to turn them on.

And now I've finally found a place to settle in the map I had previously been long-range travelling and looting in. Essentially I got bored of the looting after getting over a dozen diamond blocks and a practically infinite iron supply from the pirate airships. So now I can kick back on my mountain top place, put a music disk in the player, and long range snipe at creepers with my trusty musket (well, 2 muskets; 1 in the alchemy bag with the repair thing from EE, 1 in use, so as to keep them from breaking).

Also, if you see the colored ostrich-like things in technic, throw a saddle on them. They are excellent mounts. From what I can tell, blue colored ones are the best I've tried, with grey coming in second, purple, pink, and red after. They travel very fast, and can jump/double jump/triple jump, then glide for a very long distance. They even bounce/jump off water, so you aren't restricted to use on land. One of the most useful things I've come across lately, and makes exploring really easy.

I think i need some help, i was trying to use mystcraft but it doesnt seem to work properly for me.
Basically, if i install only mystcraft and nothing else, it works fine, but if i install Modloader, Forge 3.1.2.94, the mystcraft forge patch (mystcraft-1.2.5-0.8.2-Forge-3.1.2.94), and mystcraft 1.2.5-0.8.2, everytime i try to create a new world, i get stuck at a "saving chunks" screen, which turns into a black screen. It can't be an issue with another mod since i'm not even trying to install other mods yet.

I'll keep trying various things but if you have an idea or a solution, your help is welcome.

Edit : With only modloader and mystcraft, it works too, so i guess it has to do with forge...
Edit2: Right after that i tried using a more recent forge version (3.1.3.105) and the mystcraft patch for 3.1.2.94 and the error didnt appear... looks like i'm on the right track... i'll try a new clean install now i guess, i still have to install all the mods i want and solve some block id issues with NEI.

You don't need mystcraft AND the forge patch. The forge patch is the full mystcraft, just set up to work with forge.

Oh. well that's good to know.

It seems that the fix i found wasnt from using a more recent forge version, instead it seems that it was working because i started the game with just modloader and mystcraft and installed the rest later. Hopefully, with what you told me, i can finally install everything proper !

Edit : yay it works now ! I just had to fix a block id conflict between Thaumcraft2 and IndustrialCraft2 but now it's all working perfectly... so far. Hopefully i won't have issues between redpower2 and mystcraft !

To be fair, this only recently changed. Previously the patch was an actual unofficial patch made by a fan of Mystcraft.

I'd love to use Mystcraft but I had a bad experience with it yesterday.

Installed it, got a new age and a linking book made. Used the book and teleported through. My game crashed. I reopened Minecraft and I was back at my original spawn away from my house (I had slept in a bed!) and found my way back to my base. I went through the portal again and it worked fine, I think it was a floating island jungle biome. I walked a few steps and my game started going incredibly slowly. So I opened my inventory to go back home.

Shit. I'd forgot a linking book.

How did you forget the linking book? You said you made it, it should have been in your inventory.

Now you are stranded on an alien world. Find your way back by creating new worlds until you find one that can send you back to the overworld.

Assuming your world has water and reeds... and chickens... (Which is why I have an alchemist's bag full of paper and feathers and other supplies just in case.)
