The usual modloader "can't open BuildcraftCoreetcetera"-errors. None of the BC threads concerning the matter that I found with Google provided a fix or stuff.

That's curious, maybe a mod conflict ? I have EE, ThaumCraft and BuildCraft working together but maybe something in your other mods is causing a problem ?

Considering other people have all of these mods (and then some) installed, not likely.

In fact I haven't installed Millénaire and TC2 until after BC kept borking up.

Try adding ID Resolver to look out for ID conflicts.

Yar, after another hour of messing with this, I think I'll just do a clean re-install of the system.  I don't mind playing MC without the mods, but not being able to play it at all would be a serious PITA.

Wish I knew what happened.

ID conflicts are the easiest thing to resolve, you don't need ID resolver

Not if you're too lazy to find out how.

Inept, sure, but an hour and twenty minutes, plus the hour or so to reinstall, is hardly lazy.  As I said earlier, I just upgraded from vista to windows 7, so it won't take too long to reset the system.  Had this happened on an XP box, Im sure I could have figured it out in 20 min or less, but being brand-new to 7....
Best to start over and leave indie soft alone till I have more familiarity.

I'd suggest a perimeter of dawn totems around your home in 5 block intervals to hold back the surface taint, and then several more around the house to keep any subsurface taint at bay. Also Taint cannot spread to glass, I learned that by experimentation.
It can't spread to cobble, either.  But it does spread right past it.  I think it can spread within a certain distance by itself, skipping along the way...also, I think that tainted sheep spread taint when they graze (or just walk, who knows).

Note that taint spreads underground as well, but dawn totems (in sufficient numbers) can do serious damage to the ambient taint levels.
Go wild with the things inside the tainted area, drop a few hidden in the walls of your house and pray.
Also taint affects chunks, not individual blocks.
The surface taint affects blocks.  The taint level at the edges of the jungle are barely registering, it's like, 1/20 full or less.  Of course the levels are rising, maybe it's because it's a jungle full of horrible things now.

Screenshots please...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Note that the taint level in these screenshots is only high in some chunks...mostly because it grew into them.

Vis/Taint will flow from chunk to chunk as well, from higher concentrations to lower ones.

Now now, as said before, nuked the area and forget it. If you are familiar with computer craft, build turtlebots and send them on a flying bombing spree.

Does anyone know how to resolve block ID conflicts without the resolver mod or access to the mod files?
Because I'm getting sick of the constant ID conficts.

Sowelu> About your taint problem, i think it's because doing stuff like using any thaumcraft device, seal, etc..., generates taint, even if you're being careful (or at least it negatively charges the aura). So if you arent careful, and do too much of it, you will generate a lot taint (or negative charge) and not notice because you area will stay clean as the taint (and charge) pours into other chunks. And then, it slowly builds up away from you and eventually leads to this kind of situation. That's how i see it anyway.

I've watched a let's play where some dude uses vis condensers as his primary source of vis, fills lots of tanks with vis, and his base stays at a good level of vis in the aura, but then as he travels, he finds places around him where all the trees are petrified (dead) and the vis levels are rock bottom. Maybe it's a natural occurence, but my intuition tells me that it's got to do with the way vis and taint (and charge) travels. Note that i could be completely wrong, i havent been playing this mod for very long.

Anyways, i wanted to post some pictures of my thaumcraft 2 base :

How do you not have access to the mod files? That's the only way as far as I know. Going through the configs and writing down what IDs are used.

What binoculars do you use to see your UI sirian? :D

I'm not playing like that, i just made the UI smaller (and increased the FOV) to get better screenshots ^^
