Or just make a smaller reactor that can generate several million EU over the course of that hour.

Thaumcraft has a repairer?  D:  Damn, I gotta play that again.

Also, the axe gave me more like one stack.  The effort to make it was way more than it would take for a single iron axe to go chop part of a forest, and ridiculously more effort than a tree farm.

...I fired it back up and found the /best seed/, which unfortunately might not work with different mods installed.  (I'm only using vanilla + thaumcraft2 + minimap + some free-item cheat thing because it crashed while I was researching a huge pile of artifacts and lost them all.)  "Magic" started me out in a massive jungle, next to an open chasm, with mountains, and corruption right next door...woot.

So, for anyone who played Thaumcraft 2 more than i have, is there more to eldritch monoliths than the one room at the bottom ? I noticed there are 4 different blocks, one on each side of the room, can you do something with them or is it just for decoration ?

I think if you only got one room you were just unlucky.

If you only got one stack of wood from several of those giant jungle trees then they weren't all that big or you missed some wood. I cut 1-2 of those down and get at least 2 stacks of wood most times with the Axe. The thaumic repairer is the best damn thing ever. It has 6 input slots and uses a fairly small amount of Vis. Still takes a while if tools are pretty close to dead but its faster than the EE repair talisman (which is free otherwise). I just toss my weapons and armor in there when I get back and let them churn away while I do other stuff.

Of course I still need to research/build one in my new game...

I'll just say that yes, there is more that you can do with the blocks on the sides. Keep researching.

No, I'm fairly certain they all start with just the one room. Once you open the top, the lower chamber is generated and you have to interact with it somehow to continue. /avoiding spoilers/

What research branch is the repairer in, and is there any way to direct my research towards it aside from blind luck?

My current favorite research-fuel is lapis.  It generates a /ton/ of research, and it's basically free when I'm diamond hunting.

I believe it is in the lost branch but don't quote me on that.

Personally I use cobblestone as my general research fodder for now but I'm super poor. Lapiz is an alright choice but I have read that books and bookcase blocks are very good boosters, as are the zombie brains you get and the item-in-a-jar you can research from them.

I already have uh, 30 bookshelves, so I'm set as far as that's concerned.

...wait, you mean feeding books in as research fuel?  We're gonna need a bigger sugarcane farm~.  It's tempting to make one of those big fancy automated ones, but they're always more effort than it's worth (and running around hacking sugarcane to bits is so cathartic).

After gaining like twenty levels, I've only found three zombie brains.  They're too rare to throw away like that :(

Also if you're going to use cobble, I think that smooth stone works better?  And once you have a little redstone and have been to the Nether for glowstone, you have tons of fuel to smelt rock with.

Wait what? You were able to mine the stone? It should be set as unbreakable, unless you used creative mode or something? Did the center stone with the 4 holes get destroyed?

aye ... i think i read somewhere that once you open the top of the monolith, the stone become breakable. i could break the wall too.

Also, i noticed something weird. i was dabbling with seals and since i read that the simple magic seal improves the local aura, i placed one on a wall of my lab, and as soon as i did that, the level of negative charge increased steadily (as read with googles). The crystal ball tells me that this seal is indeed supposed to "positively charge the aura", so what is going on ? is it actually only working positively if the area is already positive ?

Magic essence on a seal doesn't affect the Aura, as in the amount of Vis in the air. What it does is charge the air so that your machines run faster. If you place it near a machine you'll notice that part of the little indicator will have lit up.

And it increased the negative charge because all seals generate a small amount of taint charge when in use.

The magic seals only affect vis-using machines, like the repairer and crystallizer.
it was probably just a fluke, calm down.

Since TerraFirma Craft is updated to 1.2.5, shouldn't we put it on the list?

Nope, its not a fluke. ALL SEALS no matter the type will cause some taint charge when used. Some seals like the portals cause a lot of taint, some don't cause much at all, but they will all cause a little.
