in thaumcraft, does increasing the number of bookcases/brains-in-jars increase the odds of successful research?
Yes. The brains work better than bookcases. They also work for vanilla enchanting if I recall.

Also they work on the thaumic enchanter, which uses Vis instead of experience.

You CAN lose a theory if you are unlucky, but its unlikely. And Torturous difficulty almost isn't worth the resources it will take. You'll have a hard time even if you're feeding in diamond BLOCKS. Medium isn't bad.

I will throw torturous theories in there while I've got nothing else to research(IE I was just gonna throw some cobble in anyway, which I rarely do anymore.) I've gotten lucky a few times even without adding anything extra to boost it. Still, yeah, not often worth the trouble. Just keep researching and hope for an easier theory.

But the Mod API aims to bring single-player mods to multiplayer.

Jens has spoken about turning single-player into how it is in Pocket Edition - you create a server from your SP worlds that your friends can join.

I remember someone suggesting this back around the time MP infdev was released and getting insults for it but don't remember which forum. It at least sounds like a sensible way to handle things.

I told you, I followed the exact instructions to install. I downloaded Forge and Modloader, placed them into the jar, deleted the META-INF, and downloaded and did the same thing with TF core, and made my new mods folder (Because it keeps getting deleted) and placed BOTH TFC_Game and Guava into it.

John, I don't know where the problem is occurring and to help you I will need to. Start with a clean install and go through the steps one at a time. After each mod you install (modloader counts) try to start up Minecraft and see if it works.

Edit: also a link to the terrafirma mod as I apparently just rolled a 1 on my Google search check.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Also, when minecraft crashes, make sure to read the modloader log because it'll say exactly why it crashed. You'll just have to stare at the log for a few moments to try and make sense of it (at least I do).
