Just a question: Are mods from 1.2.3 and 1.2.4 compatible with the latest version?

I'm having quite a bit of a trouble here, what with Minecraft failing to boot and Forge telling me that some mods are outdated.

Its best to assume no though because of only a few changes between .4 and .5, some .4 mods may work on .5 but this is probably not the case and even if they seem to work may fail at a later time so better to just wait for an update or official notice that a mod works on .5. The best way to find out is check the thread and head right to the last page. Either people will be saying it works or they will be asking when it will be updated.

I told you, I followed the exact instructions to install. I downloaded Forge and Modloader, placed them into the jar, deleted the META-INF, and downloaded and did the same thing with TF core, and made my new mods folder (Because it keeps getting deleted) and placed BOTH TFC_Game and Guava into it.
Are you playing in-browser or in the downloadable client?

What are some good mods that have non-grindy progression?  I liked some of the concepts behind Thaumcraft, but finding new vis crystals was tortuously slow, and needing to plunder dungeons for artifacts was boring because well...dungeon hunting is boring, even with a mini map.  When you're not dungeon hunting, you're mining tons of cobble for fodder.  Hm.

Also, the rewards just seemed so /small/.  Axe of the Stream?  Cutting down whole trees at once?  Awesome!  ...Wait, it loses like a pixel of durability every one or two small trees I cut down?  I took it out to a jungle and it went from half durability to broken on the second giant tree I used it on.  Considering how long it took to get those vis crystals, it kinda felt pointless.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Just gave HackSlashMinea try now that it's in the Technic Launcher and it has a bunch of potential. It turns MC into a dungeoncrawler akin to Diablo, or perhaps a bit of a miniMMO - you choose a character class at start with special skills and collect loot with varying randomized names and powers, fight bosses, etcetera. It's very alpha right now though.

Tip for Thaumcraft2:
Grow reeds. Lots of reeds. Books are great for enhancing research success rates, the reeds give a huge amount of vis relative to the effort expended getting them. A massive reed field will pretty much make you set for life with Thaumcraft2.

I've tried playing Thaumcraft2 yesterday and i agree that some items like the Axe of the stream or the Sword of zephyr (i found them in chests, didnt have to research them) are being used up way too fast. I think you're supposed to have a Vis repairer to use them properly. Their durability would otherwise be too low for more than one expedition.

Also i agree that crystals are way hard to find, but i noticed that wisps are relatively common and fast respawning, and they drop crystals quite often, so now i go wisp hunting when i need crystals (the area where you find the wisp seems to influence the crystal type, for instance i found only vaporous crystals when hunting high above ground).
Wisps die easily from bows, but arrows are a pain to make (unless you have a chicken factory), so now i hunt them with boots of seven leagues and a sword. There's probably a better way to do it, like magic wands, but i'm still fairly new to the mod.

Oh and someone earlier said they were playing Thaumcraft2 on peaceful, and while i can understand (i do tend to play mods on peaceful now), i think this is one of the rare mods that you don't want to play on peaceful. Not only because of the brains, but many items and mechanisms have a strong interaction with mobs.

And? You just got 2-3 stacks of wood out of it and you can throw it into a thaumic repairer to fix the thing. Why are you complaining about something that just saved you possibly an hour of chopping wood?

Absolute maximum?

The theoretical maximum would be something like 2400 EU/t and output a total of 480 million EU but if you set it up that way the reactor would blow up in 7 seconds.

Very high voltage. Around 2k EU/t for safe operation.

Unless you use redpower to toggle the output off in 7 seconds then let it cool for what, an hour? I don't remember the time, but I know it's possible to automate.

Or use snow golems on block breakers to create ice and cool the reactor via forced ice injection. You'd lose a tiny bit of energy because you'd take out the fuel canisters in the four corners. I wonder if you could pump it in quick enough...
