Getting hungry depends on how you move around. If your on a flat area or going down hill you can go for a long while without getting hungry. On the other hand sprinting and jumping really take it out of you on hard mode. Also remember one of the important things about hunger is you only need to lose some to stop regening health and suddenly the tiny fall that does half a heart matters and on hard mode your getting to that point all the faster. Without being able to craft it would be really hard at the start to stay above starving I would think.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Especially since there are very few foods you can get without crafting which don't have a chance of hunger poisoning you.

Apples and melons I know you can get without crafting. Any others?

And it would be nice to have a "place blocks to craft" mod, similar to snow golems and iron golems, except that to make a torch you need to place a stick, then put coal on it, etc.
Probably nothing of that sort, but still. :D

This would be pretty cool, like placing the items on a workbench to make the tools and stuff.

The nomad thing I'm talking about wouldn't have any forbidden crafting :P

But Xie's mod adds a shitload of fruit trees and plants. Plus you can craft campfires with 4 sticks, to cook over. So you don't need a craftbench for a furnace for cooking.

Herp, I got the threads confused. Other thread was talking about playing with no crafting at all.

Yeah, that's what prompted me to think of the nomad modpack again.

Loving the backpack mod inside of Techit. I can mine for days at a time with a few digger packs and miner packs.

The FTB map is basically Technic minus Millenaire, Better Dungeons, and stuff like that. Then again, those two mods seem to be my two biggest sources of lag.

It's easy to re-add Forestry to Technic by just dropping the jar into your mods folder. I didn't even have to screw with block IDs, just tell Forestry to not generate tin and copper. Even if you're not going to do beekeeping or messing with any of the farms, the backpacks and electric engines are worth it.

It occurs to me that this post may cause some confusion. The two paragraphs in this post are replies to two separate (unquoted) posts.

Have you read the readme? That tells you to download mod loader and audio mod..

never noticed the audiomod thing.

I hope that fixes it.

EDIT: nope, now it freezes at 'done loading' -_-

Install them into the jar in this way..

Modloader
AudioMod
Forge
Anything else

I suggest getting Microsoft Expression Studio and using the Expression Encoder Screen Capture - it's free and works fine. Limit of 10 minutes, but at least longer than Fraps' 0.5 :D

Need more ideas for mods that make a good nomadic Experience.

Already got:
Xie's Mod
Treecapitator
NEI
Backpacks
ExtraBiomesXL

Which isn't very much to call a modpack, now is it?

Did you do the 2x2 Crafting mod? You can then actually live without a crafting box and make daggers and handaxes. Unless that's not part of your goal, in which case you should ignore me >.>

I think I should now start my apocalypse game.

Anyone know of mods other than Mystcraft that are compatible with Technic? Alternatively, how would I make mods such as Steve's Minecarts, or Xie's Farming, or maybe Backpack work with Technic?

Isn't there a thirst mod out there for a bit of 'realism'

I'm interested in these mods, tell me if your game is any good once you start playing!
