At least until the point where... they would know what the owner of the house looks like thanks to their computer.

Or ask him for his ID and see that he owns the house.

Why does it always feel like the paranoid things you are supposed to do to prevent undue injustice are starting to seem less paranoid? For example keeping all reciepts you recieve, hanging pictures of yourself on the walls of your home, and being uncooperative to police if they bring you to the station.

being uncooperative to police if they bring you to the station.

Now that's just common sense. You never talk to police. If you're innocent, you have no reason to talk to them; there probably isn't any sort of evidence against you, and if there is, that's what a trial is for. If you're guilty, why the hell would you even think about talking to police? Everything they say to you is going to be an attempt to get you to admit to a crime, regardless of whether or not you are actually guilty (or if the crime they nail you for is the one they're nominally trying to solve).

On another note, I believe I've found the ideal nonlethal weapon for police, which seems ideally suited for this sort of "murder innocents in cold blood, get off without a conviction later" attitude.

They would probably fill them with lead and beat people down with them.

Those cops should go to jail for murder, no fucking mercy. Actually death ward would be more fitting, they should be treated like civillians doing the same, without gun liscense. No mercy, no fucking nothing, just pure red glowing fucking hades for them.

Yes, countless individuals, some actually guilty and some not, have ended up imprisoned because they stupidly talked to the police. You will make your lawyer very happy if they find out you weren't stupid and didn't give the police anything to use against you.

That's not how justice works, no matter what the crime.

Yeah. Why else would you become a police officer, if not for the opportunity to murder people in cold blood without any chance of serious consequences?

Though fucking Hades sounds like an interesting opportunity...

Not as common sense as you would think. Most of the time they won't tell you they are charging you until later. Innocent people usually are cooperative with police because they genuinly want to help them to get to the badguy.

I can see why it's the sensible thing to do from your perspective, but it seems horrible for the system as a whole.  The suspect could well be a key witness, and if the police never hear what he has to say that could hamper the investigation enormously.  When I watched the video on the subject my reaction was mostly "Why the fuck isn't that kind of evidence thrown out of court immediately?".

Then they aren't very sensible. It isn't your job to catch the criminal, it is theirs' (the police). Anyone who thinks otherwise is either naive or delusional. "Helping" the police more often than not will end up with you in trouble. Not to say that you should resist (You shouldn't, unless you want to get murdered. The side of the road is not the place to address the inherent issues with police brutality.), but you should also avoid saying anything to them. The 5th Amendment exists for a reason, and the police will be doing everything they can to convince you to talk to them, including playing off peoples' rather foolish desire to be good Samaritans and, as you said, "help them get the bad guy".

So, what should I or anyone else say in that situation with the police asking you questions? Just nothing? Like, literally tightlipped? "I invoke dah fif"?

5 steps for surviving police interrogation:

Don't talk

Don't talk

IMagine "I invoke my right to remain silent" painted on the wall and stare at it.  Police can and will use body language as an indicator of guilt.

Only break silence to ask for a lawyer

Hate the interrogator.  Part of interrogation technique is getting you to cling to the interrogator.  Hate him.
