Elves in my current fort have been disappointing in terms of beasties, but they have brought sunshine and sun berries (and a fwuffy wambwew in a cage) so I'm hoping for some unicorns.   :P

Well, at least you'll never have to fear an attack by Bronze Collossi

No throwing in Fortress mode. And it ain't gonna attack by itself, so no deal there. :(

GDS is definitely real. I've only seen two in fort mode, but I've seen dozens in adventurer mode. I used to think I'd be ok if I crippled their tails right off the bat, until one ripped the candy right off my back and beat me to death with it. It took like 10 minutes real-time.

If you're still not convinced, open up creature_savage_tropical.txt and search for "scorpion."
That would too much work for him. I would have made a joke about having to figure out how Windows Explorer works, but that would be wrong.

I don't remember any elf myths that involve them eating sentient beings
Our Elves are different.  :P

More specifically, it makes sense within the context of their ethics system; they're normally opposed to taking animal and plant life, but if they are forced to take lives in war, they eat the corpses of the fallen because doing otherwise would mean that their deaths were a complete waste.

I think DF really over-exxagerated their love of nature.
WHY WOULD YOU GIVE ME THAT MENTAL IMAGE
Animal Husbandry. :3

Dwarves passing by get good thoughts from the mist of water and exploding felines.
Anyone of the equivalent to the royal bloodline in a nomadic group would have a sun tattooed on their hand, or a scrotum on their forehead (it's a little-known fact that fraternities are based off of long-forgotten tribes).

Doesnt't the idea that giant scorpions refuse to breed conflict with the (tentatively, I think) established fact that all exotic and non-exotic animals breed?

...

Waht

[It's pretty well established that exotics never breed. Even with the pet tag. And you don't see many migrants with pet Giant Desert Scorpions.]

Damn you're fast.  Yeah, I realized mymistake after posting, sorry.

Edit: I guess reading the last line under "we know" in the following thread was what confused me: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=105636.0

Edit2: I'm still confused, to tell you the truth...

Edit3 (sorry): Actually, are you sure about that?

Exotics breed. Giant desert scorpions just don't have a [CHILD:x] tag.

They don't because their raws say they don't.

Many other things used to not breed despite their raws saying they did, but that was fixed recently.

In masterwork mod, I have 3 Giant Brown Recluse Spiders which I borrowed from the elves. I'm setting up a silk farm.

Aren't elven animals tame?  How will you get them to web?  A hostile bait?

Exactly. Check the wiki under GCS for an outdated idea. The doors for pathing are unnecessary because of pathfinding fixes. (I think.)
