you could even still use fortifications for your dwarfs to sit behind, comfortably out of sight of the necromancer as well (out of curiosity, can necromancers raise people that die from old age? i'm just getting a bit of a chuckle out of the thought of your dwarf dying of old age, getting zombified, and now you have to deal with a dwarf zombie in your fort...)

I don't see any reason why not, and other FUN such as an invader breaking in and starting combat in the area, would be an extremely good reason to take such a precaution...
