Non-food stockpile.
« on: March 29, 2012, 12:06:55 am »

A simple suggestion to make a new stockpile for non edible plant and animal byproducts.
Things like lye and extracts should not be mixed with the chopped cat livers and horse cheese.

But lye gives those plump helmets a tangy zing!

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

To make a point - Gems have there own stockpile, but large gems are grouped with finished goods.

That's because large gems are finished goods - rough gems are cut at a jeweler's workshop, and small gems are encrusted onto existing goods, but large gems can't be used for any jobs (aside from decorating them with other stuff).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Most animal extracts are similar to this - inedible and finished product rather than food item

And lye is completelly different class of item.

In fact, majority of stockpile fiddling is spend with food as specialized piles are often desirable (millable, cookable, brewable, edible, drinkable, raw fish, seeds...)

''Edible Solids'', ''Edible Liquids'', ''Seeds'', and ''Non-Edibles'' would be a good way to split the oversized foods stockpile list.
