Well as far as I understand, there is a limit. But you'll never reach it cause something evil will kill you before you do. An army of Balrogs with a few houndred pet fire imps each, and a blue jay, will stop you!

You can cheat and see the limit with the [k] cursor I think.  Although I wanted to remove this, to the point of placing fake dig rectangles if you designate mining out of bounds.

From the left edge to the cliff is ~100.  Then you just have to decide, escape through 100 tiles of elephants, mandrills, raccoons, rhesus macaques, deer and other LEVEL 17 creatures, or  fight through whatever piddling stuff is buried through 380 tiles of breezy granite.  Chicken out and choose the mountain.

They are actually called demons though, but from what I read in the files, they are almost like dragons, firebreating, fire immunity, lots of fun stuff...

Have you read/seen The Lord of the Rings?  The movie features one of the best-looking depictions of a Balrog ever.

It was a pretty wicked balrog, I'll agree. The witch king and his mount was pretty cool as well
