Disappearing trading depot?
« on: March 28, 2012, 10:08:17 pm »

I had ~70 or so dwarfs, was attacked by goblins and lost all but 18 dwarfs (handled the ambush poorly).  Almost immediately I ended up with a ton of immigrants, woo!  Anyway, during the attack, my trade depot disappeared or was destroyed or something, so I rebuilt.  Elven caravan shows up, unload, I'm bringing stuff to the depot, and suddenly get a warning that I need a depot for the elves to unload at.  I check and *poof* my trade depot is gone again!

Why for my trade depot keeps disappearing?  I think I read something about me getting the trade goods if I dismantle the trade depot when it's full of goods.  I didn't dismantle it, but it did disappear when full of the elven goods.  Did I just get everything the elves brought with them?  Are they going to be pissed at me?

Anyway, only 1 person went insane from the attack, and he's locked in a tiny room.  Everybody else seems happy enough.  Luckily, it appears whole families died for the most part, so no unclaimed children or spouses, and hey, my mason is now being kept busy making coffins.

My trade depot is always the first thing to go in a tantrum for some reason.  And because it's outside, any building destroyer monsters like Trolls will blow it too.

My trade depot is inside, so I don't have to worry about that.  Apparently I do have to worry about some jerk faced dwarf throwing a tantrum and destroying my trade depot though.  I only have one that's been throwing a lot of tantrums, it's a child that keeps flipping between holding meetings and throwing tantrums.  Maybe I can lure him into a room and lock him in.

Has he actually had any meetings?

'Cos that usually improves their mood drastically.   However if your Expedition Leader/mayor/Baron/whatever is too busy to have a meeting with the dorf, then they tend to get even pissier.   (Wouldn't you, if you wanted to lodge a complaint but the only person you can complain to is too busy drinking and partying elsewhere to listen?)

Make sure the "complaint department" has all labours removed and watch to make sure that the meeting actually happens.

If the kid is still throwing wobblies afterwards, give him a good ol' fashioned spanking.  With magma.

The tantrum throwing kid isn't a problem anymore, he created an artifact and is all kinds of happy now.  I did have to slaughter a horse for him, but the horse was pretty useless anyway.

Unfortunately, I seem to have a hard time learning my lessons when it comes to ambushes, and have lost a large number of dwarfs again.  a lot of the adult dwarfs have died, leaving children.  I think about 1/3 or so of my population is children now, and I've got at least 2 vampires.  Had a third, but she died valiantly trying to defend the other dwarfs from goblins.  I've got one locked up, and he's gone a bit mad now, destroyed all his furniture, which he's going to have to do without, because I'm not opening his door just to give him more chairs to sit on.  I should rename him to Mr. Naked No Chairs.

I'm still finding bodies drained of their blood though, so I've got another on the loose somewhere.
