It's not animals exactly, but Deadly Creatures http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadly_Creatures is a game where you play as both a tarantula and a scorpion. It's for the Wii, so some motion controls are in there, but from what I've watched it looks neat for a quick play.

Nobody mentioned overgrowth yet?

Still in alpha, but you can preorder it and play around with it.

How about all the Alien v. Predator games where you can play as a Xenomorph? Vaguely humanoid (except for parts as a facehugger), I guess, but extremely animalistic.

AvP (I've only played AvP2) series sounds like it would definitely suit OP's desires. The marine and Predator campaigns play more traditionally, though Predator campaign does have lots of gadgets, vision modes and others to keep it interesting. It's the Alien campaign that I'm recommending here. It moves and plays quite differently from the other two campaigns.

They're humanoid rabbits though. Unless there's something more to it that I've missed (I've only personally watched a few videos) there's little of what OP's wanting because the game wouldn't be very different if they didn't have rabbit features.

Man, I would REALLY love it if somebody made a Watership Down-esque rabbit game. Or, well, it wouldn't even have to be rabbits, but they'd probably be the obvious choice. And none of this anthro-furry shit, augh (although the graphics on that Overgrowth game are cool - but the anthro thing kinda creeps me out).

That thing actually looks like it came straight out of Princess Mononoke.

Edit:

Also, that article is hilarious.

There's an old PC game called Bad Mojo where you play as a cockroach: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Mojo.
There is also a freeware game called Octodad where you play as an octopus: http://www.octodadgame.com/
Dog's Life, guess what animal you are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog%27s_Life
Also Frogger, because I can't believe noone else has mentioned it.

There's also a shooter on the PC called Dino D-Day where you can play as dinosaurs, but it's a bit crap unfortunatly.

Holy crap, I suddenly just remembered this game and had a flood of nostalgia.

I used to have this on my ancient Tandy PC back when I was barely out of diapers:

This game probably fits what you're looking for perfectly (although it is a REALLY old edutainment title, so the complexity is... um... somewhat lacking).

Octodad is TOTALLY a person. ;)

So are earthWorm Jim and the Bunny People. :P

The AVP thing and NAtural Selection are cool and more in line, though, which reminds me that you could play as a Velociraptor in Turok.

So. Much. Fun. Haha.

What was that famous hummingbird game for the 32X called? That's pretty good anyway.

I've a game called Antarctic Adventure in my DOS collection where you play as a penguin, it is a lot of fun. It's more of a 'dodge the obstacles' type game than an animal simulator though: There's that famous flash game where you play as a shark and take down aeroplanes... Miami Shark?; Squirrel Squash is made by the same people and that game is great; There's Frogger of course...; Snake; Deathworm; Millenipede; Rodents Revenge... All of these are more arcade games than anything else though.

There's a game where you play as a fish for the Playstation 2, I can't remember what it was called at all though. I think it was like a Zelda style game? The main character moved very much like a fish though.

The Gex games are good too, the main character is a tad anthropomorphic (only a little bit) but you can crawl around on things much like a gecko can.

Which reminds me of an old arcade game I once played where you're various dinosaurs over the course of the game, possibly evolving into a different dinosaur or something. I remember that it was 3d with good graphics for the time, can't remember a name and doubt there's even a pc version.
