*fond memories of 40d, when children suffered from the "Paris Hilton" syndrome.*

Now? Now they run around naked, screaming their bearded heads off, demanding ultrananny. (I  doubt super-nanny could cope.)

Children are the new !FUN!

They demand resources, tend to ignore burrows and do nothing but socialize all day, thus charging up the self-destruct tantrum engine. I don't know if the population explosion is intentional on Toady's part, but as of now kids will have the fort eventually plunge into a tantrum spiral.

This seems to only be an issue in forts carried over from the last release. In my fresh fort, babies become children then immediately get dressed without a single negative clothing-related thought.

By the way, I design table top RPGs and other games. You can buy some.

They only get dressed if you have clothes, and I don't have clothes for 50+ dwarves.

I just had a child in a tantrum throw a stone straight through my legendary dwarf's shoulder and instantly killing him.

Thankfully my recent fort had babies disabled in the init files before upgrading. Only 2 children from a migrant wave to contend with, and they promptly grabbed clothes to wear.

I have since enabled babies, since it is apparent I won't get more migrants....

Erm... Shoulder? What the heck? ???

The only way that sounds even remotely plausible is if the stone jammed the poor fella's shoulder into his spine/brain/heart. It doesn't really matter though, sounds like you have a natural born killer. To the military screen! ...In several years...

Clearly, this represents six side-by-side wheelbarrows, as indicated by the right half of the icon.  The left half indicates they are carrying babies with hats in these wheelbarrows.

Presumably, they are lining up to dump them into the baby furnaces.

No, to the military training simulation booth!

12 years of complete isolation with nothing but a pet badger for company will turn that strapping young child into a bullroaring berzerker without fail!

See the "dwarven child care" thread for detals!

Sounds like they're chimping due to a lack of clothes, make some socks + pants

Ive had the same issue - my children all are in the "fine" mood range, the ones with military parents tend to be unhappy.

I had a male miner cry on the expedition leader's shoulder and attend thereputic meetings after wearing a Xxpigtail shirtxX, and having it rot off of him, "exposing" him.

Not that it was my fault mind. I had a stack of 50 brown recluse silk outfits (including caps, gloves, socks and shoes) sitting in the stockpile he could have picked from.

Are they getting bad thoughts about lack of shirts? If so, you need shirts, too. If they're getting bad thoughts about lack of chairs, you need more chairs. If they're getting bad thoughts about lack of ear spoons, you need to get more ear spoons. There's a pattern here, can you spot it? ;)

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

I've just been doing shirt/pants/socks/shoes.

The older dwarves will harvest the fresh stuff when what they have goes xpig tail shirtx or whatever, in some cases the kids will pick these up and use them.  It makes a nice temporary stop gap, as the tailors continue their work.

At present, I'm having to refine my farming, since I'm ahead on cloth and clothes, behind on dyeing, and way behind on milling with 3 milling stations, and way behind with the plants, since I'm staring at 900 total plants.  Going to cut down the seasons on booze and flour producing plants.
