Failing that, it may be 116 (911 upside down).  Noteworthy is that there are no nines or zeros in the written numbers.

It could be also related to a phone keypad, but then all those 1s make no sense.

Isn't it different in other countries? It's 999 in England if I remember, so the nationality of our host would be important if thats really the solution.

Maxinum learns that the pit empties itself. Because it's a magic pit. I dunno, the pit isn't part of this test!

Araph realises that the room is rather boring-just entrance and exit opposite each other, with the pad and inscriptions in the middle.

Tiruin realises that you could go around the keypad, but the door is still locked.

Toaster puts in three digits, but he needs the fourth. Nevertheless, for an inventive solution (and partially because you need them) Toaster recieves a Hint Token. He may use this to recieve a hint.

Borno fails to input the correct code. He dies 4 numbers in.
