Momuzkeskal, "Cryptshoots", Mistress of the Hunt [Illus.]
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:03:58 am »

Just got my second round of migrants, what seemed to be the usual assortment.  They stood around blinking Xs for a moment, and then the # of "idlers" plunged to zero as the population of my fort as a whole began to stream purposefully towards the finished goods stockpile, hauling bone earrings.  Earrings?  I didn't make any ear--oh, crud, who died?

I couldn't find the corpse.  What I did find was a seven-page pile of animal bone/hair/tooth/nail jewelry on the ground.

It turns out my new lyemaker has 295 kills to her name.  Seven pages of bone crafts (or more; I didn't notice immediately) were left on the ground where she appeared on the map--twelve more pages of ornaments on her, which I guess maxed out her inventory.

I'm not sure how unusual this is, but I am quite amused.

Since they're historical figures now, it's fairly common and some of them get up to insane levels.

I do regret that they drop them all in 34.06 upon arrival, I'd prefer they keep them.  Though it is more stuff to sell.

She's actually still wearing most of her stuff, about twelve pages' worth of it.  I'm not sure how she manages to haul things while wearing dozens of crowns and earrings on her hands, but she does, Armok bless her.

Looks like she brought with her...  49 amulets, 55 crowns, 46 rings, 61 earrings, and 52 bracelets.

I challenge someone to make a picture of her, pimped out head-to-toe in bone jewelry.

It sounds nice in the beginning but most of her stuff only goes for 10 urist. I was wondering where all the bone jewelry came from, didnt even think about the numerous vamps i have running around. I guess this is what drawbridges are for... or a one man cavern exploration team

Thanks for posting this. I kept having the "oh crap, who died" wonderment, too (and indeed, sometimes those historical hunters do get killed). But I thought it had to do with me putting them in the military, which was getting annoying! Good to know it's just that they can't wear their giant kestrel bone amulets on their knees in game.

Yeah I had a hammerer with well over 400 kills to his name.  I quickly approved his green card app.

Most of it is crowns and bracelets on her hands; don't ask me how.  Maybe something to do with the grasp tag?

I'll probably make the elves cart most of it off...  and put her in a relatively safe burrow when she's not actively marksdorfing.  (The thought of her dying somewhere unsafe...  oh Armok imagine the slaughter of the haulers!!)

While I must compliment you on a very nicely drawn picture, I am absolutely horrified.

One thing that might help when a new migrant dumps a ton of jewelry at the edge of the map: Create a finished good stockpile right next to it and make sure you have a few excess bins. A couple of bins should get taken t the stockpile and filled with the junk, resulting in lots of very short hauling jobs. Then remove the stockpile and the bins full of junk will get hauled inside to your normal stockpile. It should reduce the "ant trail" of haulers  going to the edge of the map and back and out and back ad nauseum, each one carrying a single earring.

Then again, I haven't tried this yet. It may result in a bunch of haulers each going to the edge of the map, putting a single earring in the bin, then coming back to the fort empty-handed, then running back out to stick another earring in the bin, etc. They are dwarves after all.

It looks like this will be fixed in the next release though. From the 3/27 dev log:

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

Word of Armok (AKA her description) says she has none.  >_>  Although the "very tall head" probably helps her wear more crowns on it.

I've done this before and it works quite well.  Not bothering this time, since I have more idlers than I know what to do with (razzafrazzin' migrants!) and the sieges haven't started yet, but it's a good idea.

I always figured that all dwarves have beards, if it doesnt specify whether or not its neatly combed or braided, it must be full of grease and sweet sweet booze

Yeah first time I got one of these I thought I had a Vamp on my hand.

Found a pile of ten pages of bone crafts randomly dropped and started freaking out.
Evidently it is more common then we think now. But it is still cool.
