Macros?
« on: March 27, 2012, 01:25:30 pm »

Ok, so I decided to try out adventure mode for the first time.  I want to power-level my adventurer so I tried swimming while sneaking with a macro.  Unfortunately, the macro doesn't seem to be consistent in the number of presses it is giving.  Sometimes I end up swimming less or more in one direction or the other.  Is there any reason for this?  Also, the Ctrl+u command brings up a little box that says "#", but when I type in a number and hit enter, it does nothing.  Hitting Ctrl+p after entering the number also does not repeat the macro.

Help please?  I am playing 34.05 on a Macbook Pro

Don't press enter.

Hit CTRL-U, type the number, and without pressing enter hit CTRL-P.

For the other problem - The problem seems to be caused by the macro being set to repeat too frequently.  Go into your init.txt, look for MACRO_MS, and set it to a higher number, like 20 or 25.  This will make your macros slower, but it will make them more reliably perform all the functions you ask of them.

Ok thank you very much!  That worked.  And since the repeating macros work now, I'll just make less steps in the macro itself.  That should keep it running smoothly.  Thanks again!

Sure.

Keep in mind, you actually upgrade faster if you have a crutch at the same time.  Sneak-crutch-swimming trains three skills for one.

Then, swim back and forth under a bridge, because drowning trains endurance super-fast, while still training all three other skills.

After that, train most of your other combat-related stats by picking up a clump of dirt, and throwing it at a wall one tile away.

You can do something like throw a clump of dirt at a wall about 1000 times per day, eat, drink, sleep, eat, drink, then go back and do it again.  Instant legendary.

I recommend you go watch TV or play some other game or make and eat dinner or something while you wait - it'll take about an hour to accomplish.

You might be able to significantly shorten that time if you optimize your macro and have a computer that can handle semi-fast button presses in adventure mode.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Macro can't be optimized more than "go right 6 times, now go left 6 times" or "pick up dirt, now throw dirt one tile to the right".

And as for the option of buying a new computer, I think I'll just watch my shows before I plunk down the money for a new computer.

Put this in a text file that ends in .mak, call it knap or something. Put in the df/data/init/macro folder.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Open df to an adventurer.
Find a spot without too many people around. Towns lag.
Find a ground tile where hitting [g]round will get you a small x rock as option 'e'. (or edit OPTION5 to something else)
Drop everything you could otherwise throw (everything held and in containers, but not what you're wearing) somewhere that is not this tile.
Go back and pick up two rocks, one in each hand.
Knap them.
Load the knap macro. Play it once to make sure it works. It should throw the sharp rock south, pick up another, and knap it.
ctrl-u 99 then ctrl-p
Repeat. Just tested and it takes about three minutes to get legendary in throwing, archer and knapping.
Embrace the dark side, let the powerleveling flow through you.
