Attention evveryone! You should consider becoming excited and spouting out awsome ideas because if you do you will be the first to beta test the game and you will be added in as an NPC adventurer.

I'm still not excited.  What ideas do you have?  You're the one making the game.

Hmm... what ideas do I have. :-\ ... :o psychic fruit! Evil computers, elementals of everything from sticks to plastic to noise. DF style randomly generated undead. (Think husks.) I have a ton of ideas but it's not enough. Judjing by what I've seen some of you have a very twisted imagination, which is the reason I came here first.

Hey I want to write a science fiction novel, if you come up with a setting, charcters, themes, and sample paragraphs for me I'll let you read it, thanks in advance.  I want it to be something like "2001 Space Odyssey", so like all science fiction it's going to have a spaceship and aliens.   Please get really excited and come up with some ideas, thanks in advance.

Roguelikes without permadeath is like BBQ grill without meat

You are right

That leaves only Fish and Vegetables

but no meat?... TERRIBLE!

Or wait... I actually like Baked Potatos and grilled asparigus... plus you can even grill garlic bread.

Wait, wait. What?

Fish is meat. BBQ without meat leaves only plant-things.

Grilled potatoes is great though, yeah, and various breadthings is wonderful.

Point being that permadeath isn't a necessary condition for a roguelike, just a highly sufficient one. Varying procedural bitsies is generally a bigger deal.

Quick E: And seriously though, OP, do you have any coding base yet? Any mechanical aspects implemented? Content is generally a much smaller hurdle than engine and we'd have a lot easier time helping you along if we had a better idea what sort of mechanical restraints we were operating under.

Well ok... Topic creator

If you think you arn't very good at making games then add pernadeath

NOTHING hides flaws in a roguelike better then pernament death. Since if you don't have pernament death then you actually have to work hard on the gameplay. You can't just half-arse it.

For example lets say there was an enemy that kills you with one hit who randomly appears for no reason
Savepoints: "That enemy in unfair and BS... why was it included?"
Pernadeath roguelike: "Ohh my goodness, this game is genius! It is soo HAAARD! Look how he just killed me in one hit. I am going to read Wikipedia for how to get around it"

Hmm... a roguelike where you start as a spirit in the afterlife, looking to be reincarnated might be interesting, if done right.

Playing Lost Soul on the old TOME was this, basically.
