Optimal Werecreature?
« on: March 26, 2012, 10:24:34 pm »

Okay, here's a question for the bay 12 hivemind: Out of all the werecreature types you've encountered, which do you think would be the deadliest? I'm asking because I'm trying to find something to turn my adventurer into that doesn't instantly melt when attacked (cough *werelizard* cough), and isn't significantly weaker than my default form.

I encountered werebears once, though it tore me to shreads and I couldn't find it again.

On a side note, I'm wondering if there's any way to ensure there'll be lots of necros and werebeasts.

There's a worldgen option for both.

Well, yeah, I know, but I meant lots of actual creatures, not the types. For some reason certain WBs are common as hell, while the cool ones all die off.

Well, the RNG seems to create duplicates of some werebeasts. You could have multiple forms of werelizards and weretortoises and not a single werewolf. Whether they survive worldgen is either a measure of luck or their fitness for survival. Like evolution, but more dependent on combat success than reproductive success.

Lol, I just genned up a new world and found that weremammoths are common as hell.

I was hoping for a werewolf or cheetah or tiger or something that would be decent in combat, but this is a whole new level of insane.

Now all I have to do is survive a fight with one.

I once met a serpent man (with deadly venomous bite and all) that was a lycanthrope and each full moon changed into - a koala. In his koala form, he devoured animals, people, and even a troll or two. I highly recommend it for challenge.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

Once saw a weredingo. Pretty damn tough and I would have died if it weren't for my meatshields.

I'm not sure if possible, but a were-gcs would be awesome.

Hi!

Reading the title of the thread, the first thought that came to my mind was giant weresponge ... but I guess you had something else in mind :) :) :) :)

Besides the creature type, I guess the weakness type is probably also rather important -  I guess steel (rarity), bismuth bronze (rarity/possibility?), and copper (weakness) are probably your best bets, while iron and bronze are probably something you would want to evade.

As for survival rates, I am not sure if there has been a lot of !!science!! in this field. On a hunch, I guess you would want a world with many small settlements and few major cities (to weaken the civs). So, I suggest maxing civ number out for the world size you are doing, so that rivalries and wars keep the number of towns low. But that is just a hunch.

Yours,
Deathworks

Holy shit, Deathworks is back. Anyway, I'd say wereelephants would be great, considering how powerful elephants are.

Yep. Wereelephant/Weremammoth is AFAIK the best, because of the massive size advantage.

Yep, I'm planning on getting a weremammoth dude and seeing how he does in combat. Though for !!SCIENCE, I might have to save scum a bit because genning up a new adventurer after getting butchered (most likely outcome of fighting a weremammoth) would  be annoying.

btw, has !!SCIENCE been done on what becomes of a retired adventurer who is a night creature?

If Toady ever got "wold gen continuing" working, things could get really interesting. (Like: Get a quest to kill your legendary wrestler/legendary dodger superhuman wereelephant adventurer who would probably rip you in half even if it isn't the night of the full moon interesting.)

I think I've just performed !!SCIENCE.

For whatever reason, increasing the # of civilization is detrimental to the # of werebeasts.
