Kahn retrieves the books.

4 He sits next to the abandoned cauldron, now inert and passive, and opens up a book that has the letters Ye Olde Book of Terrible English and Witchecrafte Hexes emblazoned in silver spirally text that manages to look gothic and elegant at the same time. Best of both typography worlds.

A hundred pages of equally spirally text and horrid grammar and spelling later, Kahn manages to learn how to draw a Simple Hex, but not in mid air. He needs to draw or etch it on a surface. It has a random effect, ranging from cursing the target (1~2) to making the target stronger and tougher (4~6) to making a large cloud of smoke (3).
Azastre 1,2 accidentally trips Popo while trying to go to her. The boxes and other fragile glassware all tumble to the floor and scatter across it. Popo whimpers a bit and catches three of the magma flasks, but two acid rain flasks hit the ground and shatter. Thick grey clouds boil upwards and start coalescing.

As Ire began the initial start of her spell, she noticed Azastre in a sullen mood, perhaps due to his accident.

She couldn't help but feel for the young lad. He looked so innocent and...well, childlike. One that you could just hug and play with everyday. "Azastre...I didn't mean that.

Yep. A boy with a robot holding a man who was once possessed by an evil sword. Nothing out of the ordinary there.
