Are they? I read some places that they are, but I want to make sure because I know this hasn't always been true.

Mine are coming up in pairs when produced normally. But artifacts are still laughably singular. I had a dwarf in my current fortress make a giant earthworm leather left mitten. I just assumed he wanted to play baseball.

Yeah, they are. Like Exponent said, artifacts are still produced as singular objects despite normally being paired.

Haven't they been doing this for a while now? If not I have a lot of Forts with singular gloves floating around.

Gloves and gauntlets have been produced in pairs for as long as I have been playing (since 40d). The only exception is an artifact created during a mood. Those are always singletons.
