Probably not, but no hard science is reported.

would robes/dresses work for the lower body or would you still need separate trousers?

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Just how bad do dwarves get if they're naked? If they have a lot of friends, a nice bedroom, food, and work, will they mind being naked?

I always loved having a few nude dwarves around. After one siege, I found a three year old dwarven child standing in the middle of the dining room covered in blood, stark naked.

That's terrible. Awesomely hilarious, but terrible.

I think that's just hilarious.

Perhaps wearing clothing under armor will become important now!

She was more than justified.

Bloody hell, can you even begin to imagine the chafing? I think I speak for all of us when I say that we'd do the same thing in her High Boots.

My entire fortress crumbled as all the children went berserk, stark raving mad, or melancholy and ended up dying which triggered an unstoppable wave of death and chaos that swept the fortress. The zombies that were "accidentally" let out and the irrigation floodgate which mysteriously fell apart didn't help either.

yeah she went berserk in hte dining hall and killed 5 dwarves with one body she hit...... I think 4 dwarves survived (aka managed to kill her) after I equiped them in masterwork steel.... unfortunately I got sieged right after.

Do they care about material? As in, can I clothe the soldiers in leather instead of cloth without them caring?

As long as it's clothing, probably.  Armor is armor and armor is not clothing.  Leather armor won't count for a shirt.  I haven't tested this, but I can guarantee you that it's true.  If you make a leather shirt, a dwarf will claim and wear it.  Can shirts be leather?
