Hey, wait, what are the requirements for a vampire to feed, again?

If I have a vampire, and work out who it is, and chain goblins/elves/whatever up in his room, would that keep my other dwarves safe?

(Purely speculative - I have yet to see a single vampire. :( )

Dying (ceasing to be alive) is also not a Moodable skill. Even totally unskilled Dwarves seem to do it correctly.

'invaders' don't sleep, so no luck
unless you capture an fb with a syndrome that causes sleep andchain it up in the same area, anyway. more trouble than its worth, really.

Here's something interesting. I have a bunch of goblin mounts that I captured, tamed, and stuck on chains in 1x2 rooms behind doors. They're losing their training and not being retrained (not on the list any more, either), which might be a bug or might be intentional for captured enemies. (No big deal, I want 'em for their offspring anyway.) Anyway, I have a voracious cave crawler that went wild and knocked down the door to its room. "Oh shit", I thought, "that's going to scare any dwarf who goes past, and there are animals further down that hall that I still want access to." Well, no, actually. I put in an order to replace the door with a wall, thinking that I'd have to fight with the dwarves to get them to do it, but my mason-hauler wasn't bothered by the VCC at all, even with it being just one square away. The VCC didn't attack, either, it just kind of hung out being chill.

Also if you order them to be attacked they can't get off the chain and dwarves can be ordered to back off and the creature will no longer be hostile. I have an animal person chained in the dungeon that my guards occasionally beat down for fun.

Moments like this are why I love this game. Sadistic torture dungeon fortress, here I come!

Do elves eat? I think that may pose a problem.

From what I understand an elf would only have to eat if it was tamed. Needless to say you can't tame elves, ipso facto you can imprison them in your fortress for all eternity in wooden cages, dumped in a giant wood stockpile so everything they will see for the rest of their existence is CUT TREES !

fixed that for you

Actually, you can go even further than that:

Then, someone actually built it:

This is false, I kidnapped an elf merchant and had her chained up in the dining hall for the amusement of my dwarves. She immediately went insane, stripped naked, and began dying of thirst.

Which is still entertaining for your dwarves nonetheless.  I recommend setting up some glass windows, though, just in case she starts trying to throw her own gnawed-off limbs or excrement at your dwarves while they are eating or something. Also, suspend all work and burrow your whole fort in to watch when you think she's about to die... no fair making them work through the best parts!

I had captured 2 invaders' mounts and here is the report:

Elven ambush came mounted on horses, camels and war bears. 1 horse and 1 camel were caught into my cage traps. Both of them were named with some elfish names.

My parent civilization had Domesticated level with both horses and camels and they were listed at the bottom of the Animals tab as not tame. I assigned trainers to them and after bringing some prepared reindeer brain roasts to their cages - they were now listed as Domesticated and had (tame) after their names.

Since they are grazers I assigned them to pastures and they were escorted there and released with no problems.

Shortly after they vanished from the Animals tab completely and were found in Units->Other with their original status Invader. Even while the original ambush was active in full force the mounts were not much aggressive. Now the horse and the camel were scaring away other animals from the pasture and civilian dwarves that came to return other animals back but were themselves scared by civilian dwarves. They still had (tame) after their names. Military dwarf came and stabbed them both to death without resistance (hunters would probably continue to ignore them as Invaders).

I was lucky to not had captured the war bears. Carrying them past my trapped entrance, "taming" for immunity to traps and releasing into the main dining hall would have been the ultimate Trojan Horse story.

I also had a similar issue (that I mentioned here or on another thread) with cave crocodiles that I "acquired" from goblin invaders - has *anyone* been able to tame invading mounts long-term, without issues?

This might be some sort of lingering loyalty token issue, like why creatures that had killed a dwarf would forever be hostile, even after taming, which was just recently fixed.

It might be worth posting a save and a bug report.

Well I captured six war cave dragons in the last siege, but none of them are tameable, despite what it says in the raws.  Thoughts?

Big question: does dwarf have reliable ways of driving captured sapients insane? Can you make goblins insane?

Merchants inevitably go insane from standing around, I don't think it's possible to drive an invader insane.

Has anyone chained up some invader mounts and seen if their children can be tamed properly?  Tamed or untamed invaders.
