No, they are not - they are MEAT objects which simply display a custom name based on their material (muscle, lung, stomach, liver, brain, etc.).
It's only a body part if it appears as a "²" (and isn't vermin remains).

How should I go about collecting brains, then? Perhaps I could make some kind of reaction which... hmmm...

I could make brains shearable. I remember that something like that happened as a bug a while back.
