Overseers journal, Spring of 251: 1st of Granite, 251We have yet to strike the earth, and I can already spot a variety of interesting
stones in the southern hill side, and I can spot numerous veins of bituminous coal, as well as
some brilliant blue cobalite. In all my years I've never encountered cobalite before
and I'm un-sure wether or not it's a rock or a gem. In either case, I hope this stone is as
useful as it is beautiful.
The southern hillside seems like a perfect location to carve our base into, however
I think I may dig a temporary shelter closer to the wagon, in order to keep our goods secure.
I'll have to sleep on this decision, so it looks like it's yet another restless
night of sleeping in the wagon for me.
10th of Granite, 251We have successfully carved out a temporary cave, and we will soon have room that with serve
as a meeting hall and sleeping quarters, and we will also have a carpenters workshop, as well as a room for
a still. We still don't have any beds set up, so it looks like I'll be
sleeping on the sandy cave floor tonight. At least it's an improvement from
sleeping in the wagon.
15th of Granite, 251The carpenters workshop has finally been built up, and what's better is
that we have a surplus of freshly caught river salmon. The nearby river is
absolutely teeming with fish, and our fisherdwarf can catch fish and haul
them to our storage cave with suprizing efficiency due to the fact that
the shelter's so close to the river.
25th of Granite, 251I've instructed my miners to carve out the entrance hall.
I have also included a large room near the entrance, which will hopefully
become the barracks some day, and I have also left room near the entrance
for a trading post.
12th of Slate, 251I can't believe it's been over a month already, living in this god-forsaken sandbox that
other dwarves call a shelter is really starting to get to me, but at least the carpenter
has finally gotten around to making beds so I'll hopefully be able to get a
good nights sleep soon. On the bright side the, fields for the farm have been flooded,
so we will be able to start growing some delicious plump helmets as soon as the water
evaporates, not that were
going to need it anytime in the forseeable future because we have more than enough
salmon in the storeroom.
14th of Slate, 251Okay it officially fucking reeks of dead fish in the storeroom. Luckly
the fishery has finally been set up, and we can be able to cook that moutain of
rotting fish lying around in the storeroom. I've also installed a door at the
entrance to the storeroom, and I've bolted the fucking doggy door shut, so that ought to
keep the fucking cats out. I have also noticed that the sheet of water in our farm area
is starting to evaporate, and I'd wager that our farm will be operational within the week.
16th of Slate, 251I woke up this morning for the first time in a month without any sand in my ass,
nose, eyes, or ears because I actually slept in a genuine bed last night... *sighs*
god I miss the moutainhomes.
20th of Slate, 251The farm is finally up and running. Seeing this farm "come to life"
has given me a brilliant idea. I have drawn up plans to utilize all of the
small ponds in the area for the purpose of watering our crops, not that I can
concieve of us ever consuming that much food. In anycase, the permanent base
will be just below this existing shelter, which will still be used for farming once
the lower lever is complete. In other news, the entrance to our permanent fort
has been dug out, and that just means that we're one step closer to moving out of this
sandy hell hole. Lastly, I've ordered that the stairs leading to the shelter
be deconstructed and the shelter be connected to the main entrance only. This way,
the main entrance will be the only way in and out of the shelter. I have done
this because the main entrance will be much easier to defend.
23rd of slate, 251I'm starting to get annoyed at the fact that no one seems to count the amount
of food and drinks we have in our stockpile, so I have promoted one of our dwarves
to bookkeeper but he refuses to work until he gets an office. I can understand why,
but it still frustrates me, none the less.
28th of Slate, 251
We have set up a temporary dormatory now and we have 7 dwarves sharing 9 beds.
In other words, no one has to wake up with an ass full of sand ever again.
This may be my last journal entry for a while, because it looks like everything
is stable right now, and all that remains to be done for now is carve out our
permant base, and make a temporary office for our new book keeper.
20th of Felsite, 251Holy crap! We are completely out of wood. I asked our carpenter why and
he responded that I told him to stop cutting down trees on the 3rd of Slate. *facepalm*
I cannot believe that all he's been doing for the past few weeks is nothing.
Honestly, if he weren't the only tree cutter we had, I would have had him chopped up
into pieces by the butcher and thrown into the river to be used as chum!
