How I wish DF could use more resources now . 2 GB of RAM and a single processor is very low usage by modern standards. If it could use more we could have much larger fortresses and far less lag.

Computers today are simply not powerful enough to manage that much awesomeness, give it a few years and it might work (unless DF complexity is increased enough to compensate). I run either 3x3 or 4x4 max, compy is a 2 year old laptop so can't manage much more :>
That's not the issue, this game has been running for me at the same FPS since the early days of dual cores. The problem is low RAM usage and only 1 processor being used, that's why 3x3 maps are the most you can do if you want a fortress of 200+ dwarves and 30-40+ FPS (any lower is unplayably slow)

What really kills it is when you hit that 2 GB RAM mark, that's when the game gets really fucked. At that point all you can do is mass destroy stone and unneeded animals.

Or get that mod that allows DF to use more... can't remember what it's called or if it's updated to latest version.

I challenge you to a game of 'Hide the Sausage', to the death.

Could you find it please? This is a really big problem for me.

I found the cause of my "bursty" lag.  I finally used reveal on it.  There was a FUN feature.

There is only one cat, and all cats are that cat.
Almost losing is sometimes fun.
