Iron and.... corundum?

You do know that corundum is crystalline aluminum oxide, right? (Parent mineral for sapphire and ruby?) Its the second hardest mineral after diamond.

I think you mean calcite. :)  (calcium carbonate. The same mineral found in most limestone except dolomitic limestone.) Its only surpassed in softness by talc. Easily scratched with a fingernail.

No I meant corundum. I'm stoked that you caught the absurdity of my statement, but a bit disappointed that you didn't get the reference. Let me help you out a bit: http://www.ign.com/wikis/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/Corundum

Ahhh... good old bethesda!

(Note, for reasons I won't relate here, I refuse to buy their products until after they drop to 20$, and then only second hand. As such, I have not been exposed to such madness.)

Furthermore, their corundum looks like brass for no good reason at all.

Mother nature wins again...

Ballooning spiders, as well as most species of spiders in their infant stages, shoot strands of silk through the air. Then begin flying.

Air resistance =/= Spider

Also GCS don't exactly have the range of a hunting rifle on them ^-^
They don't "shoot" the silk into the air, so much as let the wind catch it and pull them up. It's not technically flying, and doesn't resemble what the GCS does at all. Also, they do it for different purposes (travel, not hunting) But if there was wind in the caverns, which isn't unlikely or impossible, then it could work. But it doesn't explain how it can shoot any direction it wants at any time with good / fair accuracy.

If there were constant breeze and not too many obstacles, it could have a very impressive range and even wrap around corners.

Some species of spider can eject a "sticky" spray of venom mixed with silk protiens from their venom glands.

A more evolved form of this evolution could produce a spider that can spray a coarse silk from their cephalothorax instead of from the abdomen.

I was washing a window once and didn't notice a dead one on the seal. I brushed it with my hand (almost laid my hand right on top of it with all my weight) and the babies went everywhere. It was horrible. They got all over me.
