Catsplosions? Maybe.
« on: March 24, 2012, 01:43:35 pm »

I believe I read I can cage the female cats and that will stop them from creating evil spawns of ... evil.
Now I am sure I missed it somewhere, but how can I make sure I am caging the female cats? It doesn't seem to show gender on the list for the cats. I can locate my female cat, but when I do, don't know how to cage it without going back to the cage itself, which again doesn't show the gender.

Slaughter the males.

Then you're left with the females!

While that would accomplish part of the goal, I'd rather not slaughter all my cats. I just want to cage the breeding cat.

If you use 'v' to view the cat and check their 'g'eneral screen, you should be able to see a gender icon next to their name/description.

I like to keep a single breeding pair active and just put all kittens in the cage. The kittens will mature in the cage but not breed, and, if one of your two breeders/vermin hunters dies, you can pull a mature replacement from your cat cage.

Note: This also means you will never have catsplosion as you don't ever have enough free cats to spawn 30+ kittens in a season.

I just get cat leather for my quivers, it allows extra archers.

Hi!

I haven't verified this in the 0.34.x versions, but in the version beforehand, identifying animals for caging was possible via the animals list in the status screen (z). The thing is, the order in which animals are listed when you access the cage was identical with the order in which the animals are listed in that animals list, which also includes the sex information. So, just note which cats you wish to cage in the animal list of the status screen and then access the cage.

However, at least in the older versions, the animals list only contained potential pets while the cage list also contained other critters (and also animals currently there with the traders), so the cage list may be a bit longer than the animal list. But the order of entries was at least in previous versions identical.

I hope this information is still valid.

Yours,
