Welcome, Adventurers!
(Or whatever else it is that you may happen to be.)
It has been a long time in the making, but it is finally here. Welcome to
'Modieval' The Forum RPG! Hm? What is Modieval? It's a good question, although those of you who are the most interested, probably already know, but to those of you who don't: I'll do my best to try and answer it.
* Aninimouse casts 'Wall of Text' *
In a nutshell, Modieval is an RPG-Style, Play-By-Post forum Roleplay, within which, you do whatever it is your heart desires in a post-Industrial Revolution version of the world used in my other forum game, 'Medieval' For those of you who have no idea what 'Medieval' is, it's basically your traditional Fantasy world; Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, Magic, etc... But the twist here is that now the use of inventions such as Firearms, Airships, Automobiles and the like are widespread, while Magic and Fantastical creatures are still just as common as they've always been.
Ever want to fight off a flight of Dragons from within a massive, Aerial Gunship?
((
For a couple of reasons, I'd put off putting a better explanation of time period here; And then I just forgot about it... So to Clarify - The time the game takes place during is similar to a 1930/40-ish Earth - But of course, with stuff like magic and airships and numerous other things making it just a bit different.))
Don't get too excited just yet though, unfortunately, you start your journey as little more than a nobody. You may be a good shot, or know how to cast a mean Firebolt spell, but you're no badass.
Not yet, at least, that'll take some time and experience, but once you get going...
You could become a good ol' Adventurer, exploring ancient, forgotten ruins in search of treasure.
Or a High Ranking Soldier, leading your squad into the front lines of battle.
Or a Mercenary, getting rich off of the jobs others won't do.
Or an Explorer, sailing through the skies in an airship, mapping out the unknown.
With a lot of work, you could even become the leader of your own Faction, whether it be one seeking peace, or war.
But those aren't your only choices, you can be whatever else you can think of.
The goal? There isn't one, other than to have fun. (Of course, you can always set goals for yourself, such as bringing an end to all evil, conquering the world, amassing a large fortune or a fleet of Airships, etc.)
How about the Story? Well, the past is up for you to discover on your own, but your actions are what will be shaping the story's future. The only real Big Bads are the players that seek to become the Big Bads. (Unless No one wants to become the Big Bad, but how likely is that?)
Also, due to the nature of the game,
(And my talent with writing introductions, this following bit wasn't basically copy-pasted from Medieval's thread, I promise!) you don't have to team up with any other players if you don't want to. You can act almost entirely independent of every other player.
(Unless your character runs into them and you decide to interact with their character. And if you do want to team up with other people, it'd be best to do so with people with similar posting times/habits to yourself. If you'd want to post and play often, you probably wouldn't want to play with someone who only posts once a day, you'd be stuck waiting for them when you could be out there killing things!)
And, while this, as an RP, isn't some wacky, fourth wall breaking adventure: It also isn't exactly an entirely serious one. References, subtle cracking of the fourth wall, and all around bizarre happenings certainly aren't uncommon, and if that isn't your thing, this game probably won't be either.
You have no control over any NPCs, places, events, or especially players outside of your own character's interactions with them. So playing the game does rely a bit much on my presence.
Lastly, if you have any questions, ask
Here in the OOC Thread.
It's simple, really. Once you've filled out a character sheet (And I've approved it), you'll get a post much like this:
~~~~~~~~~~Urist~McGunslinger~~~~~~~~~~
Are You Ready to Play?
A)Yes!
B)No!
This serves as a bit of a way to make sure you at least understand how things will be going, to some extent. You simply choose one of the available options, (A), B), C), etc.) and post.
(Though note that now-a-days, a lot of the time you'll get A)<Insert Action Here> instead of these traditional types of options.)
~~~~~~~~~~Urist~McGunslinger~~~~~~~~~~
"They're everywhere!" Shorast shouts as the undead begin pouring into the room from all sides. This is bad... Really bad.
"Game over man! GAME OVER! The fuck are we-ARGH!" Jim screams, being abruptly pulled into the darkness by the approaching hordes!
"Do we run, or shoot?!" Louis asks, sounding very panicked. (And rightly so.)
"RUN OR SHOOT?!"
A)"Both!"
B)"Shoot!" You aren't going down without a fight!
C)"Run!" Maybe you can break through a weak spot in their lines before it's too late...
D)"Wait, what?! Where are we? What's going on? Didn't you just ask if I wanted to play, and now this is happening?! WHAT DO I DO?!"
When presented with these options, you don't have to just post;
B)"Shoot!" You aren't going down without a fight!
And I don't really recommend it, as it's usually more fun to RP:
"Shoot!" I shout,
"Let's make them pay for what they did to Frank!"
There are no rules against it however.
Fights on the other hand, are a little more complicated, almost always determined by your stats, unless a win or loss can be predicted with absolute certainty.
I don't have a tutorial for that yet, because the system has been changing around - So if you want to see what the Combat is like, just skip ahead to one of the most recent pages. You'll know it when you see it, but don't worry: It isn't actually as complicated as it looks. I just haven't figured out a way to make it look good/simple yet.
