Swimming across an ocean?
« on: March 23, 2012, 05:58:53 pm »

Is this possible?

My char is a vampire, and therefore doesn't need to breathe (I think) and never tires, so in theory it should be possible, but I'm wondering if its ever been done.

But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

Yeah, people have done it before. It'll take a while if you aren't crossing a small gap, so you may just want to weigh down a movement key.

in an earlier version I swam in sigt (barely) of the coast of an ocean, leveled up really fast. Only went on land to sleep (and fight bogeymen). However, never had an ocean embark, so it was a bit of a surprise when a sea monster started nipping at my balls.

Keep in mind that you will get thirsty and a source of fresh blood might be difficult to come across while swimming. Among other things, a lot of the animals tend to be so large that it's actually easier to accidentally kill them than it is to strangle them until they pass out.

Swimming across a wide ocean is no easy task. Enjoy seeing a bunch of double tildes or whatever they're called, or numbers if you have water depth enabled.

Set out in the morning so you don't get encased in ice.

I have done that as a vampire, it's incredibly tedious. The ocean seems to be devoid of life.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

I was listening to "Leviathan" by Alestorm when I read this thread. Can't tell whether it is weird, or awesome.

Crutchwalkswimsneak across the warm ocean.

Don't even try it in a cold ocean. Man, I hate how DF models the oceans freezing over every night... so daft.

It depends on how big the gap is. I tried it with a Huge gap, but eventually got bored and drowned myself.
