Civilizations

This might be a very newb question but if I embard and I press c, and the only civ is a dwarf civ, does that mean all the other civs died out or they just haven't been discovered yet?

It just means that no civilization besides the dwarves have visited your site yet. The dwarves instantly do on embark, since your dwarves are members of your civ, but the other races won't appear until at least one of them have come to the site.

Ok good. I won't abandon the fort and start a new world civ then. Its only 250 years so I would have thought the other races would have survived.
