1) Build kennel
2) Go to Animals screen
3) Select animals for training (and optionally a specific trainer)
4) ...?  ???
5) Watch as your partially-tame animals run rampant through your fort, possibly snapping and killing dwarves.

(6) Profit?  :P)

Ah, so it's handled through the Z screen now?  I haven't had a chance to embark yet.

On my new animal training screen it shows three ? as the keys for selecting a trainer, war and hunting training. Am I not qualified to train them? What are the keys?

t for selecting the trainer.
w for toggling war training.
h for toggling hunting training.

Although despite setting it all up the way I think it needs to be set up, my trainer is blissfully ignoring the two tame dogs I have set to be war trained.   ???

Yep, kennel now only has two tasks: capture live land animal, and tame a small animal.  I suspect it may not even be a required building for training large animals any more (although haven't been able to confirm/deny that yet).

Yeah, doesn't seem to toggle anything for me. My dogs under the overall training tab only say domestic though. :/

I FOUND IT!

Training is done in an animal training ZONE!

I set one up, and now my animal trainer is merrily training those beautiful dogs of meatshield war.  :)

Related question: what's the difference between [PET] and [PET_EXOTIC] now? I thought that the later would just be changed into the former in the raws everywhere, but apparently that's not the case.

Does that mean that training an animal is now a hands-on experience?  They don't just "go perform a reaction" but they really get in there and do the training?

NINJA: Presumably, exotics are more difficult to train and have a higher chance of reverting to wild.  They likely also don't breed - this was true before.  Pets breed, exotics don't.  I don't know if this has been changed, but I assume it still stands.

*facepalm* I figured it out too. I copy pasted my old key binding file over the new one 'cos I was lazy to reassign everything.

You can assign specific trained animals in v>p>e. Yay! More lists.
Zone is all that's needed for your basic pets like dogs.
