Vampirism - A noob question
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:23:50 am »

Just out of curiosity. (as in oh crap oh crap oh crap)

On either your Discription page, or your Health page (or even just the charector page) does it actually tell you if you have vampirism?
I know i had a quest to kill a vampire but im not sure if i;
A) Did it yet.
B) If i did do it if he hit me.
C) If i maybe drank his blood of my armour/weapon/body.

I wasnt really planning to become a vampire, didnt really want to to be honest.
So
Anyway to find out, or will i just have to wait and press e next to someone and see if "drink blood" is there?

you know that you are a vampire if you no longer need to sleep (don't get drowsy etc) and at night when you stand next to a sleeping npc and press e (for eat if you changed your keylayout) there will be an option feed from Urist Mcunsuspectingpeasant

But there is nothing on your health page (Syndrome Vampirism?) or in your description denoting the fact you are a vampire?

Or is to attempt to feed the only way to really find out?

Well... not having to sleep and eat anymore at all makes things pretty obvious.

Also the THIRSTY will be red instead of blue. And you get a bat icon in your fast travel screen (if you play with a graphics set like Phoebus, dunno which character it would be in ASCII mode).

nothing changes in asci, but when you feed you turn into that.... N with the thingy on top that is used for night creatures. On a note, you'll gain the average speed of a hero or whatever, since you're trying to blend in. My hard trained character went from 1600 to 1200.

Figured I may as well ask here instead of creating a new topic: When you're a vampire, I know if fortress mode vamps get by without a drink just fine. Will you die of thirst if you don't suck blood in adventure mode?

Also, just how good are vampires in combat? I slaughtered about 50 peasants and a few military that were in a town I was caught feeding in, and then was promptly gored to death by a night creature. I want to know how much of that was my own badassness and how much was vampirism at work.

I've survived several chipped bones that I couldn't have lived through if I wasn't immune to pain.  I don't think your physical attributes go up by that much, though.

They do, but after the first time you feed, you go into stealth mode and act as an average person, usually actually becoming slower than you were before. However, if you started out as demigod with insane strength and such anyway, you might not notice much difference at the beginning.

The immune to pain and not needing to breathe are the biggest perks.

...and the frozen attributes is the downfall that makes it worthless. If you aren't already superracial everything, Vampirism fucks you over in the long run. That, and any serious injuries you take are forever, whereas a werebeast adventurer just has to wait for the next full moon to heal their massive nerve damage and severed limbs.
