Best Bone weapon?
« on: March 21, 2012, 08:08:41 pm »

My dwarves love to enter a Mood and get bone as first item, and yeah i got tons of useless bone artifacts (none furnicure)

And that made me curious, while i do know Crossbow, Bow and Shield artifacts made of bone are as good as any other material what about other weapons?

I got a bone mace, shortsword and spear, are any of these useful? whats the best melee bone weapon?

Any bone melee weapon is worthless. Stick it in a weapon trap in your meeting hall for some happy thoughts.

A bone crossbow or shield is excellent, though. They both have secondary bashing attacks that will suck, but for their main purpose (shooting and shielding, respectively) artifacts > masterwork of any material.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Sorry, only fell mood bone items work, and they don't work as well either.

Doesn't matter what you offer, "Oh Mighty Armok, please make my dwarfs less stupid" will never be answered with anything but a laugh.

I thought Armok's will was only influenced through an excellent display of circus entertainment or beautiful red glowing light. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You're getting crappy bone carver moods because your moody dwarves don't have any moodable skills. Make a couple of extra metalsmiths forges with a Maximum skill of adequate with repeat orders to churn out metal bolts or shields so that you have a pool of low skill weaponsmiths and armour smiths who will then choose something metal when they decide to mood.

Why couldn't my vampire Hammerer eat someone useless, like a migrant? Instead, she went after my only gemcutter.. but sadly there were no witnesses, so I convicted someone's pet duck as the murderer.  It got off easy, with no beatings or jail time.  >.<

No stone is as dense as any metal, so any given stone blunt will be weaker than any given metal blunt.  Adamantine and slade excluded, for obvious reasons.

That can't be right. Per lb of weight, aluminum blocks will occupy more volume than a granite one.

Native aluminum has a very low mass density.

If aluminum has a higher density than granite, the game has issues.

2670 compared to 2700.  Granite uses the default stone template, aluminum metal has its specific density listed.  Coincidentally, native aluminum has a specific density that is also 2700.

Aluminum weighs more than granite.  May your mind be boggle!
