Liaison not talking to mayor
« on: March 21, 2012, 05:56:41 pm »

My mayor was a vampire, who I had locked in his own little tower (along with my other vamps).

When the liaison arrived, I locked down my fort and opened the tower drawbridge, so he could meet up with the mayor.  When he went into the tower, I raised the bridge, then put the fortress back on normal alert.

The mayor then spent the next year "conducting meeting" with the liaison, but I never got the "what do you want to trade" screens.

This continued until after the next dwarven caravan arrived (along with a shearer who I presume was the new liaison).

(I let the caravan into my fort, locked the main gates, and unsealed the tower so the new liaison could reach my mayor.  Then three or four ambush parties appeared, and killed both liaisons and all my vampires).

Does anyone know why the meeting never concluded?

I believe you need to make him an office to conduct the meeting in. Not sure if he needs all his furniture needs met or just chair/table.

He had an office (chair) in the tower.  He also had the full set of mayoral requirements in the main fortress.

Perhaps he tried to get to the mayor's office rather than to the tower office, and couldn't reach it (since it's outside the tower)?

has your major been there long? they do not drink booze and any dwarf that doesn't drink booze starts to work slower and slower, even vampires. If it has slowed down too much, it may take a few years before the meeting is done.

there is a slightly cheaty workaround by going to (d) and designate a block for mining with the mouse, just holding the mouse button and undesignate it when done. Meetings still progress even though the game is paused while you do this. It also lets caravans pack up and that kind of thing.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

I had this same thing happen in my fort. They just sat there for at least 5 years (judging by all the liaisons that piled up), and then suddenly just decided to talk with the meeting progressing at a normal rate. I have no clue what triggered that. Future meetings involving this mayor worked properly, but those amounted to nothing more than me refusing a barony.

Now, a normal dwarf won the election, and he is doing the same thing. I haven't even gotten the "I am your liaison" screen, and a year has passed.
