King dies of Old Age in fort... Civ Fcked?
« on: March 21, 2012, 03:36:37 pm »

As far as I know, if a king dies for ANY reason inside of your fort.. There is no medium for appoint a new king since the histroy mode is inactive.
So if one dies of old age, you are just screwed?

This is a very good question. It seems to be in the monarch's raws that they should take an heir, but I don't know if that will happen in your fortress.

What's the safest way of getting the king vampirized?

if you have a vampire, make him bleed, insidea a well inside the King's room, and then let the king go in there and lock the doors, eventully he will get hungry and thirsty, and drink the vampire blood in the well, so yea, vampireized, just make sure he is happy, and locked up

to tell him to go into the well zone, and stand next to it, then start stabing him with weapon/spear traps, make sure he has no armor, and it can be iron spear trap, or a light weapon, Vamps are very strong, so they won't die easily , but i think a giant blade may kill him >.> so carefull with weapon of choice.

I can't seem to build a well without having some stupid dwarf bleed in the cistern, so I guess get the vampire to make the whole plumbing system.

Are heirs even handled correctly for kings in fort mode, if they do have one? Last I knew, it didn't matter if your baron has descendants or not, when they die that's it for the barony.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same for kings at the moment.

It's world gen code that picks new kings, it's possible that picking successors during fort mode is waiting for a major overhaul of the codebase that would allow world history to continue during fort mode.

Not really, but old Dwarfs are more likely to arrive now.

The current king is 150 years old!
Most Dwarfs seem to die around 120 or 130.
Soo... :P
