Utilizing My Pet Werebull
« on: March 21, 2012, 02:22:46 pm »

So, I embarked on a site that happens to have -two- lairs. One is a lair to a giant bird, another is the home of a single kobold who happens to be a werebull.

Knowing how dangerous hoofed and horned beasties are, I want to know; how can I keep him alive and best use him to serve my fortress from his own underground lair?

kobold who happens to be a werebull.

I ... I can't imagine this. Why is my brain broke? Who punched the skull through the brain?

Anyone of the equivalent to the royal bloodline in a nomadic group would have a sun tattooed on their hand, or a scrotum on their forehead (it's a little-known fact that fraternities are based off of long-forgotten tribes).

I'd be a bit more concerned with the Roc. If you have No_Exotics, you can tame it. And Rocs are freaking brilliant.

Awesome embark. I would resort to cheating (i think runesmith lets you do such thing) to make them both friends of your dwarves and then build a honorific compound for both.  Or a buddy comedy film set: kobold the werebull and his giant bird friend solve vampire and goblin related crimes. Actually I would watch that

Have the kobold ride the roc into battle, then leap into the fray while transforming mid-fall.  You should not settle for attempting anything less.

Seems he's stuck between a Roc and a hard place, as well.

No, but as long as he's a kolobold he will be, so you can always just lock him somewhere when his services aren't needed. Alternately, you can use him to infect all of your dwarves, so that they won't attack each other at all. This will also eliminate the need for an army altogether.

Barely any time has passed my fort, as soon as I noticed I had a werebull I went straight to the forums. Making the entire fortress werebulls sounds pretty awesome, though. The question is how I manage to do this... If I can get one or two dwarves infected, they will turn and fight other dwarves, and either kill them or leave them alive, potentially making those dwarves werebulls... How should I go about doing this, though? I honestly don't care if 90% of the dwarves die in making my fortress a werebull city as long as enough live to make it happen eventually.

I'm not an expert on dwarf fortress though, so I'll need some advice on how to make this work, and if anybody can tell me how, I'll gladly make the save file openly available so the rest of you can experiment.

As far as I know, nobody's yet managed to make a successful weredwarf fortress.

One of the real risks is civil war.  When a werebull fights a dwarf, one or the other is likely to grapple-- these grapples will persist after the bull transforms back into a bull.  At that point, both dwarves will continue fighting, and one will eventually kill the other.  The killer is now both a member and an enemy of your civilization: everybody will try to kill him, and whoever manages to kill him will become the next enemy of your civ.  Forever and ever, until all your dwarves are dead.  Which is probably not acceptable to you.

So a werefortress has to manage this very carefully.  Any enemies of your civ have to be isolated or killed (by water or something, not by dwarves).  However, it should be possible to every once in a while get a weredwarf that's not a civ-enemy.  These would be your resources to cherish.

It is probably much easier to create a werefortress in a reanimating biome.

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

I believe Mitchewawa was interested in the year, not the time spent. It matters in connection with the roc - a young one is weak, but a thousand year old one is quite the challenge. Also both will be immune to your traps. (the kobold naturally)

Edit: does the werebeast curse spread with blood or only with bites?
