Also Toady set a limit of "1400 AD" as the highest tech level of the (core) game. Coffee would break immersion and ruin the medieval setting, so that's unlikely to ever become a core feature. Hence, it's a candidate for a mod.

Well, according to legend coffee dates back to the eighth century, there's apparently a Persian physician from the tenth century who mentions it as well.

Mmmm turkish coffee.

I see no reason why coffee would be beyond medieval technology. The time of its discovery appears to be happenstance more than passing any scientific barrier. Also, elves clearly sip tea. Dwarves, however, would find a way to concoct some form of Red Bull out of coffee beans, honey, and giant spider ichor.

It'd be epic if we could make foods that have a positive effect when combined as food - like the coffee balls used by Northern African tribal warriors before going into battle - crushed coffee beans rolled in goat fat for a HUGE KICK OF ENERGY.

Of course there would have to be a 'coffee crash' afterwards...

Dudes, ALL that is totally do-able. Even the "comedown".

- have 1 syndrome attached to the food with positive effects.
- have 2nd syndrome attached to the food with negative effects, and a delayed reaction.

- make a custom food preparation job which makes the coffee / animal fat balls. But personally I'd just make the coffee brewing.

I'ma research how to do it. I'm fine with creature creation, but I haven't seen the new tokens yet or made a new workshop. Probably could get Putnam, Meph or any other of the very proficient modder's help with it.

Hmmm. So I would put the Shazbot/Reelya coffee shrub in the plants raws, then build a workshop or a custom interaction.

I'd probably love the idea of a 'Coffee Brewery' workshop where coffee could be 'brewed' or made into the aforementioned coffeeballs, to be consumed at a 'Coffee House' workshop (multi dwarf possible?) or simply just eaten/drunk as normal.

Oops I had a typo in one of the "START" values for the "comedown" syndrome bits. Editing the old post. Should have been "START:50" not "START:0"

You might want to see how long 0 to 50 is for the "caffeine high", and the "comedown" lasts from 50 to 75, so see how long that lasts.
